Generator connection

Hey There,

Long time fan of Airstreams, first time user.

Im rennovating the inside of a 2003 INTERNATIONAL 22' ccd for a client, and mainly being a woodworker, I wanted to test the power via a generator, you know simulate the whole experience. I'm sure this seems like an amateur inquiry to the forum, but I just don't recognize the plug - it looks like a dryer or refrigerator plug, but my generator only has 110V and a 220 twist lock - neither of which match the trailer. I don't want to just cut the cable and add a different plug that fits my generator and end up blowing up the insides. any suggestions?

It is an RV 30 amp 120 volt single phase connector. DO NOT use a 240 volt dryer plug, it will cause much damage to the systems in the trailer. Go to Walmart and buy an adapter from the trailer plug to the 120 volt plug on the generator.

The plug on the end of the shore power cord for an Airstream varies.

How many blades are on the plug at the end of the cord that does NOT plug into the trailer??

If it is ONLY three (including a round grounding pin) it should be a 110 volt 30 amp connector. It requires an 30 amp to 20 amp adapter to plug it into the 110 volt outlet on the generator. This is a TT-30 plug, if I remember right...and it is NOT like a stove connector. 220 volts will kill this trailer electrical system.

If the plug has 4 blades, its for 220 volt (dual 110 volt leads with a neutral). That can be adapted to 110 volts as well, but it is a bit harder...takes a very different adapter.

If you are NOT trying to run the air conditioner, you can test the lights and battery charging circuit with an adapter--don't try to run air conditioning!!!

Thanks! I couldn't find an adapter, I was only able to check home depot this am, but I was able to make an adapter out of some pieces I found there. Lights are on! My Next question - is there anything special I need to do to get the outlets working? Thanks again.

Most generators have a twist lock plug so the vibration doesn't make the cord fall out.
An RV store, or Amazon sells an adaptor to convert it to the standard 30 amp RV plug.
