Fuses and other gadgets

Hello All-
I am a newbie to the trailer world and had a few questions. I'm putting together a list of items to have with us on our travels in case something needs a quick repair. I was searching fuses on Amazon and there are a ton to choose from any thoughts? Also any other must have gadgets or goodies for a quick repair or troubleshooting that I may want? I did look through our owners manual and found nothing on the fuse type i.e (mini,HRC) etc.. I also would have gone out and pulled a fuse to check but it's in the shop getting some repairs done.. I figured this would be the next best place to ask

I keep plenty of inside fuses that I purchased from our Airstream dealer, Out of Doors Mart. Ben, the parts manager, helped me get together a good assortment. If you have any trouble locating what you need, give them a call. Shipping would be minimal, since they are so light.
One fuse that often gets overlooked is the fuse in the jack for raising and lowering the trailer. Last year on our trip out West this fuse blew as I was hooking up for an early departure. Had there not been a nice guy who took his fuse out and loaned it to me to get the tongue raised up, I would have been stuck until the next morning or forced to raise the tongue manually which is a real pain. This is a 30 amp automotive fuse. I stopped at a NAPA auto parts and bought a 6 pack in a case that I keep in the glove box of the tow vehicle.

Best way to know exactly what fuses you need is actually look at what is in your trailer after you get it back home. There is nothing special about any of the fuses used in Airstreams. Any auto parts store or wallyworld will have them. NAPA is an excellent local source for many of the off the shelf parts and pieces that Airstream uses.

Not all Airstreams use fuses! Some utilize self resetting breakers while others use a user resetable breaker.

For 2013 Flying Cloud 25' Rear Bed Twin

I have found the following fuses on the 12V side:

Fuse Panel - Main Feed
30A (Green) ATO blade

Fuse Panel - Circuit Feed
15A (Blue) ATO blade

Water Pump
15A (Blue) ATO blade

Tongue Jack
30A slow blow glass 3AG 1/4" x 1 1/4"

Baraldi Range Hood
5A mini slow blow glass GMC--5-R 5 x 20 mm
Radio Shack 270-1067

Refrigerator External Fan (when refrigerator does not have a roof vent)
1A glass 3AG 1/4" x 1 1/4"

Fantastic Fan
4A glass 3AG 1/4" x 1 1/4"

Refrigerator
3A & 5A - per owners manual, have not actually seen them


On the 120V AC side in the main breaker:

Fuse Panel - Main Feed
30A/20A
Siemens Q3020

Fuse Panel - Circuit Feed
20A/20A
Siemens Q2020

If you have auto resetting circuit breakers (type 1) get rid of them and install manual resetting circuit breakers (type 2) or fuses. The auto breakers (type 1) can start a fire if the fault is not cleared and they continually keep resetting. I have had several do that in the past.

I carry mechanical tools, electrical tools, a drill w/bits & charger, fuses, electrical tape, an extension cord, rubber gloves, various lubricants, a tire gauge, AA, AAA, 9V & D batteries, a level, flashlights, grey & black water additives, microfiber towels, Windex, and a lot of other stuff! I have used all of these items many times, and this is just the short list!

My old trailer had blade type fuses in a fuse box. I replaced them with fuses that lit when blown which made trouble shooting much easier. Found them at an auto parts store.
