fuse box replacement on older airstream

anyone replace their old glass screw in fuse box with a newer breaker box? I have to do this on my 54 safari, any tips? What type of breaker box did you use etc?
Thanks

Mitch,

I used a RV 50amp 240V breaker box from Progressive Dynamics that I bought from Randy at Bestconverter.com http://www.progressivedyn.prawnserve...?CategoryID=34

You probably want a 30amp/120V box. Those are available from the same place, but only as a combination box with 12V-dc fuse slots.

You can also buy a regular circuit breaker box at home depot, but I didn't find any that were the perfect size and capacity. If you do a 30a system you can only have five separate circuits, plus a main breaker, for a total of six spaces. You also need to separate the neutral and ground bars.

Hi Mitch,
I'm getting ready to do the same thing on my '56. The fuses are
under the bath 'vanity' screwed to the back wall. I found a panel
at home depot...it's made by Square D , rated at 70 amps, and has
8 circiut capability. I don't need all of them but this is the closest
I could find in 'panel size and it cost a lot less than what they
(dealers) want for a 30 amp model!!!! Let me know if you need some help and I'll walk you through the process.
