external charger effect on electronics

When dry camping I use a battery charger plugged in to my generator. Since battery chargers can produce voltages of 14+, I wonder if my trailers electronic stuff could be harmed or does the battery smooth out the high voltage.

14-14.5 volts or so for an hour or two is okay and will not harm your electronics. A depleted battery is supposed to go to that charge level for 1-2 hours while being recharged. This is called the absorption stage. After that the charger should maintain the batteries at about 13.2 volts (the float stage) until depleted again. Your charger should be making these adjustments automatically.

You need not worry unless your batteries are staying at 14v or above for extended periods in which case both your batteries and electronics may be jeopardized. If this is happening, disconnect the charger intermittently until you determine the cause such as malfunctioning charger or converter.

Question

An assumption....you are using a stand alone charger 'cuz you don't want to use the on-board single stage converter/charger and risk burning up your batteries.

Most of the quality stand alone chargers will not over-charge or damage any on board electronics.
