Electric Systems

Having just purchased our 72 Ambassador I am beginning to repair in stages and I have many questions.
1. The plug that goes into your tow vehicle has been cut off and replaced with a flat 4 end. Does this negate the electric brake system on this trailer?
If so, can I still find a manual that will show me the wiring system to replace with the round plug?

2. Is this trailer's lighting system totally 12V and dependent upon a battery being installed to operate?

3. It appears that the only 110 items on it at this time is the a/c and oven.
Is there anything that I am missing?

4. Where do I find an owner's manual for a 72?

5. Where is the closest AS RV dealer for used parts east of Indianapolis towards Ohio?

These are the first of many questions I will have and I do appreciate all of your help. I have replaced the floor in the front and I am currently working on tearing out the floor in the rear bath that has rotted. Any info that I should be aware of?

Thanks again

#2 Should be yes. The 60's had both, but the lights in my 75 are all 12 volt. They run off the battery or from the convertor when plugged into shore power.

On my 71 Ambassador the original Univolt is curbside in the back tucked behind the side of the bathtub accessible through the exterior rear access door.

My converter is right next to my battery compartment, under the front gaucho on the roadside. It is plugged into 110 and powers the DC stuff in the trailer when hooked to 110, as well as charges my battery. I bought one of those Intellipowers. I really like it. It's got a 4-stage conversion. I only needed the 45-amp version. For the 110 system to work, though, it has to be plugged into camp power (unless you've got an inverter, too).

3) The Dometic refrigerator might be gas-electric. Mine is, and says so on the front. For mine there is a 110 outlet behind the frig up under the skin when you open the outside panel. I just switch to Electric and it gets started right up.

So...you bought a vintage trailer, did you, honey? Good deal, was it? Oh, just a couple of repairs, huh?

Drat, now our little Argy is starting to grow on me. I guess you were...were...were...right, honey.
