Doh, Only two wires but the fan runs backwards!

I have a simple toggle switch which was wired in to the back bedroom to run two 12v fans and I just cannot get them to push air out rather than suck it in.... yes, I've switched the wires to the other switch post but there is not change. Now, I'm usually ok with wiring but this is SO simple I can't figure it out. Any comments (good or bad) will be accepted and taken with good humor.

Permanent magnet motors will reverse if polarity is reversed (exchange wires going into motor). If the fans are computer type, they're brushless DC motors and cannot generally be reversed unless designed for that.

So what you are saying is that, regardless of what I do now, those fans are always going to run backwards?

Bart, they're cheap plastic fans. Any suggestions or did you basically state that they're somehow reversed forever.....

If you have a standard automotive type install the motors are grounded as the return to the battery - so flipping the wires on the motor itself might work... If they are muffin fans, it will have rotation and airflow directions indicated usually by universal language symbols... ←↓ or →↑ etc. (nearly invisible) cast into the plastic housings.

you need to return those fans and get some set up for the northern hemispshere. Somewhere in South Africa or Brazil there is a guy with the same complaint....

What kind of fans are these (a picture would help here)?
