Confused! Wiring in a Shur-Flo vent fan to a '66 Carvelle

Hello, hope someone can help, I've searched the forum and still can't quite figure this out. We burned one board already by wiring incorrectly, don't want to burn out the new one. SO, we have a '66 Caravelle that had a ceiling vent fan. We removed that and installed a new Shur-Flo vent fan, but the wiring is confusing us.

The airstream has white wires and black wires. The fan has Red & Black wires. We think the black wires are power, the white wires are common, but there's a black thin wire just hanging there not connected. Is this the ground? And if so, do we connect it to the common white wires (seems to be wired that way in other parts of the airstream) or do we find a ground by connecting that black wire to the skin somehow?

Help would be much appreciated...

Thanks so much

The white wire from A$ is the common/ground wire. Which connects to the black wire on the fan. The A$ black wire is Positive 12 volts, it connects to the red wire on the fan.
As for the small black wire. Did the previous fixture have a light? It may be for that and is operated from a remote switch.

Thank you! We don't remember where, if anywhere the skinny black wire went. There was no light in the original fan.

Over the stove and fridge, the two white wires also have a skinny black wire twisted together with them, so it may have been the same.

But you think we should be ok to hook it up without it. Just white and black, no skinny black.

We appreciate it!

My mistake, just checked with hubbub, the skinny black wire is the circuit board, so no worries. Black board wire to white and red to black!

Thanks so much!
