Circuit identifier/tester

A few months back, someone posted a reference to a tool that he/she considered a "must have". I can't find it for the life of me.

The tool in question, as I understand it, was a circuit identifier, a somewhat specialized circuit tester. As I understood it, the user would alligator clip a signaling device onto a "where the heck does this go" wire and then use a proximity sensor to locate the other end of the wire. For instance, I might see a wire protruding from the roof in the rear. I could alligator clip the signaling device on there and then wave the sensor about the Central Control panel. When the sensor got close to the end of the wire that had the signaling device attached at the other end, it would sound off.

Does anyone else recall that post or that tool? I want one!

You're probably looking for something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Fluke-Networks.../dp/B000FTADX0

Called by various names:
• signal tracer
• fox and hound
• tone generator

I use mine almost every day!!

I have a nice old one to go with my 66-block punch down tool and butt set.

And if you know what I'm talking about, you probably know what a 400A card is used for too.

I used to own a complete set of Bell System Plant Practices manuals....

I'm just a pile of old-style tech at times.
