Checking water in the battery...

...is a major pain in the *** in my Tradewind! It's got a front battery door that folds out and down, but the way my propane tanks sit, I've gotta unbolt them and move the one on that side forward a couple inches to get the door all the way open.

Then, of course, the battery is packed into the box and weighs a ton. Then, when you put it back, the top of the box is warped down, so you've gotta pry it up to get the battery back in.

Seems like a lot of trouble for a battery water check... at least compared to a car.

What's anybody doing about this? Y'all got some magic battery that never needs water I can buy when this one dies?

If you want Maintence free then you need to be prepared to spend some $$$. AGM or Gel batteries require no maintence and can be mounted in any position. They are availabel at marine stores or you can ored a optima blue top for your local auto parts store.

Sounds good, huh? The only problem is that proper maintence of a Gel or AGM can require diffrent charging voltages than the univolt may put out. If you have a more intelligent charger you can tell it what kind of battery you have and it will do it right.

I do not remeber the voltages for sure but I think Gel 's were 14.5 charge and 13.5 float????
