You burned coal to keep from burning natural gas, propane or gasoline. Is that a plus? A lot of calcualtions must be made.
Electricity is simply a method of conveying energy, not a method of producing it.
Another factor rarely mentioned is the disposal of the newer batteries with tons of Lithium etc. in them. What is the cost of dealing with this waste stream, and is it being factored into purchase decisions?
Remember how appealing nuclear power was presented to be? How about all the spent plutonium sitting (leaking?) at Hanford WA is it?
