Whatever the Amperage, AWG and length of the run, always check for voltage drop. NEVER let it go beyond 10%.

Well, I don't get that. It doesn't consider the length of the #12 in the house. If that is within limits, a #12 extension cord could certainly be used to the #12 limit.

In a house built in the past 30 years or so outlets are 20 amp with #12 wire.
