Battery charging tip & tricks...

2007 28' CCD w/AM Solar AM100 solar panel, Heliotrope MPPT Charge Controller, Parallax 7355 converter/charger and (2) Lifeline GPL-4C (6 volts) in series.

Questions/scenarios -
  1. @ Home (w/30 amp RV service)
    1. Giving the limitations of the 7355, when stored should I have my trailer plugged in continuously?
      1. If so, what mode should the "store/use" switch be in?
    2. With a 3-stage converter/charger, is it recommended to leave plugged in?
  2. Travelling (plugged into truck)
    1. should I have the solar charger on?
Thanks in advance

As for item 2, it should not hurt anything to have multiple charging devices connected in parallel. It might slow a recharge from a down state a bit depending upon how smart the charging devices in question may be, though.

For item 1 you are talking about storage. What you need is to (a) keep the battery fully charged and (b) inhibit sulfation. A trickle charger will usually handle (a) but (b) requires something like the BatteryMinder technique or perhaps the PD+CW or WFCO periodic bulk level boost. There is some controversy about whether this technique of periodic bulk level boost should be applied to AGM's (I don't think the two converters push the charge enough to harm an AGM but I'd still avoid it).

Thanks. The multiple charge sources/devices is a bit overwhelming. Thanks for your input, appreciate it!
