Since you brought up batteries, which way do the electrons flow, + to - or - to +?

Out the - side, in the + side. Has been that way forever...

Then you look at diodes and transistors, and the blasted arrows still show conventional current flow, i.e. + to - . It's electronics-- it down not always make sense.

Vacuum tubes, of course flow from - (cathode) to + (plate).

Now you are making my head hurt again[emoji3][emoji3][emoji3]

The wife's 2006 Jaguar has a negative ground system. 1980 MGB has negative ground, 1978 Triumph spitfire same deal. My dad's 1959 Triumph tr3 was a positive ground but converted to standard negative ground when we restored it.

(Understand, question from old nuke sub plumber, who took one class for Electrical Theory for Mechanical Operators, in 1977)

So, in AC circuits, the switch is on the "hot" black leg to isolate the juice from the load when switched off. In DC circuits the switch/fuse is in the red + wire; so the load will light up with a short between load and red wire switch?
No, I guess the short would be back to the same frame the negative pole is bonded to?

My 1961 Austin, A-55 Mk.2 "Cambridge" had a positive ground.

I don't remember what my 1965 MGB. was. I didn't keep it long enough to find out.

Hi

If you ever get into a vehicle that is set up with a 6V electrical system, there is a pretty good chance it also has the positive hooked to chassis / grounded. Nothing is ever certain, but it's a good bet.

And then there was a Toyota Land Cruiser with a 6 cyl. diesel.
It had a 24 Volt system.
I really wanted one, but that 24 V. system was a deal breaker.
NOBODY sells 24v auto accessories; unless one wanted to use aircraft equipment in it.

Hi

If you ever head that way, there is a whole world of military vehicle "stuff" set up for 24V. Not going to find it at the local tire store, but it's out there.

Yup. Just proves that standards aren't...as any experienced engineer can tell you. Let's don't talk about the so-called RS-232 communications standard, for example.

Hi

No different than that red traffic light. Around here it seems it's "just a suggestion ...".

Basic RV Electrical Question, I think

Yes, especially in certain neighborhoods in SoCal area....sometimes I think they are a challenge for certain Macho types to get through them lest they get delayed for a minute or two!

Does anyone have experience attempting to use a 30amp electric dryer receptacle for a 30amp RV service/supply?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes, did one when I first got my trailer. I actually wired a generator outlet box from HD to the outside wall from the dryer, via a box inside with an a/c style quick disconnect, then made a jumper with a 30 amp rv outlet and 30 amp generator plug. 30 - 50 pigtail, EMS, 50 amp TT shore cable. The jumper could be used also with a 30 amp generator, if it didn't have a 30 amp rv outlet.

The website at the bottom of this page is a good source for all the outlet and plug numbers. You just need to tap one of the 120v 30 amp hot leads, the neutral, and ground from the 240 dryer service. I added the disconnect inside so the male generator box contacts weren't hot when I wasn't plugged in.

Hi

It's normally a 240V outlet. You will need some sort of adapter to hook it up. As noted above you can do one that will work pretty well with a 50A trailer or a very different one for a 30A trailer.

Tapped the new 30 amp feed into dryer outlet box, inside wall to back of new A/C pull style disconnect box mounted on interior wall. Flexible conduit out of that box punched through exterior wall to back of 30 amp generator connection box (male tines exposed for 30 amp generator cord). It was what HD had available at the time and allows future generator hook up to back feed service panel through the double breaker 30 amp dryer circuit.
