air conditioner issue - fan on auto??

We have a 2010 23' flying cloud. We were camping at the Outer Banks last week - very hot and muggy - we had the AC running pretty much all of the time at 76 degrees. After a few days the AC started a minor drip through the vents. We were told (by an RV repair guy) to run the fan on the high setting so we did. After a couple more days the fan would run but we never heard the compressor kick in and it would not cool.. we took it in to AS place....they told us something in the compressor had to be reset and that we MUST run the fan on "auto" when running the AC. In fact, the head guy at the shop said the compressor would not even kick on with the fan on "high" or "low" setting. I'm confused since the AC was running for several days with the fan on either the high or low setting. any experience with this problem?? solution??? (PS....we like to have the fan running constantly at night - the drone helps us sleep.. but running the AC with the fan in auto mode the fan kicks off and on with the compressor)

Sounds like a misunderstanding.
The rotary knob on most have two major selections.
OFF (hopefully self-explanatory)
Auto (fan runs continuously and compressor turns off/on as directed by the temperature selected by the other knob or thermostat)
FAN (which is FAN ONLY...the AC compressor will never operate, and merely moves air about the coach.)

Hope this helps.

AS for the drip: After several days in a humid environment the condenser pan may overfill and drip. Check the trailer is level, and run the fan on Auto-HIGH speed may help.

My 2001 Safari AC did not have an automatic selection. It had Low and High heat, and Low and High Cool on one switch and a thermostat (that only worked in cool mode). My 2002 Classic has the Comfort Control Center thermostat. The mode button cycles between OFF, FAN ONLY, COOL, HEAT PUMP and FURNACE modes. The FAN switch had AUTO, LOW, and HIGH. In AUTO mode, the fan would turn on and off as directed by the thermostat. In LOW and HIGH, the fan ran continuously and the heating or cooling was controlled by the MODE switch setting and the thermostat UP and DOWN buttons.

We regularly ran the unit in HIGH or LOW fan setting in COOL mode with no problems. It ran almost continuously for two weeks on the Cajun Country Caravan and a week on the Galax Special event rally.

The technician you spoke with was misinformed or simply not correct, at least from my experience.
