Advice please.

I'm staying in more state and BLM parks.
Often they have 30 amp but not 50 amp power. I can live with that. (I think)
However I'm a big fan of a surge protector.
I have a very nice P.I. 50 amp surge.
So, here's how I see my choices.
1. get a dogbone to go 30 amp male to 50 amp female. Add the PI 50 amp there.
or:
2. Buy a P.I. 30 amp surge protector and use my 30/50 amp power cable I keep for the generator.

Obviously, there's a big money difference, but I don't want to have a dogbone with a nice surge protector laying on the ground either.

Sometimes you bite the bullet once, vs. kluge a lot.

Advice please.

Stay with your EMS-PT50X and get a dog bone for $15 bucks.

Question on this since I haven't tried this in practice.

Newly acquired unit with 50 amp.

Progressive 50 amp EMS

If we have only 30 amps, I assume one
1-plugs power cord into airstream
2-terminates power cord into 50 amp EMS
3-plugs 50 to 30 amp dog bone in to EMS
4-terminates dog bone to power pole

Is this correct? and are there any issues or problems with this?

We still have the 30 amp EMS from our last rig. I would prefer to not have to bring that, but it is something we own outright if it would make anything work easier.

Advice please?

Advice please.

You are correct. There are no issues with this so long as you do not exceed a combined total of 30amp draw across L1 and L2 legs of the 50A service line.

The vast majority of 30->50 amp dog bones are internally wired as such: The single hot pole on the 30A adapter will normally provide single phase power to both the L1 and L2 on the 50A female connector.

Your EMS will still protect against high / low voltage, reverse polarity, open neutral, open ground, etc in this configuration.
