AC Soft Starters

I know everyone on here is familiar with the micro air soft start system for our RV AC's allowing a single AC unit to run off of a 2000 W Honda generator. I know my career has been super gracious and offered a $50 discount with the discount code "AIRSTREAM". And I purchased a micro air system using this discount code BUT.....Has anyone looked at the hyper engineering soft start system. www.hypereng.com available here http://www.gen-pro.biz/shop
The hyper engineering system is about $100 cheaper than the micro air system I would love some input from micro air on what the difference between the two systems is. Just food for thought as I stated I ordered a micro air system yesterday.

As a Commercial Vendor here, Micro-Air is not allowed to post product comparisons.

You might email the company and ask them.

AC Soft Starters

I could be wrong but my online research seemed to indicate that the hyper engineering product was actually the first generation unit designed by Matteo Giovanetti, also resold by dometic under the smart start brand name. There is at least one video online of Matteo demonstrating the hyper engineering product at a trade show.

I believe that a few years ago Matteo left hyper engineering and started working for micro air and has since designed a newer, improved soft start device.

As an example the micro air easy start has a built in 5 second delay between fan start and compressor start - allowing a generator to first spool up out of eco mode to start the fan before going full throttle to start the compressor. This saves fuel because you can run the generator in eco mode and it won't stall under instant load if compressor and fan try to start at the same time. Also, the easy start has an IP65 enclosure for water resistance and has a 2 year warranty vs one year for the hyper engineering product.

I looked at both devices (actually all 3 if you include the dometic version which is oem hyper engineering)

I decided to by the micro air easy start because it was easier to wire, had better documentation including videos, had an option to buy all the connectors you need for an additional $10 and better overall product support. Matteo will even supply you with a custom wiring diagram for your particular AC unit if needed / desired.

Matteo is very good about supporting micro air customers, and the airstream community. He is extremely knowledgeable and responsive based on my personal experience.

So I think it is safe to say you get what you pay for

Page 2 from Micro Air's datasheet points out some of the differences between their device and the competitor.

It's worth mentioning the following discrepancies:

- Average start surge reduction to 70%: Hyperstart also claims 70%
- Lower Cost: Hyperstart is retailing for $229 with an enclosure
- Fault LEDs on circuit board for easy determination of cause: Hyperstart also includes fault LEDs
- True 6 ton compressor support in largest model (38 FLA): not relevant

So what I'm getting is the same Guy Design both units similar to Hensley and Pro pride hitches. And in order to avoid Patent infringement made some changes to the system as a second-generation improvement.

Also microair offers free tours of their facilities in NJ. Impressive and informative but most of all you get to meet their receptionist.

This is my theory but I cannot confirm. You'd have to email Matteo and ask him

Also - the easy start from micro air has led lights as well - you just need to pop off the cover to view the. if you ever need to troubleshoot an error.

I just installed my Micro Air. I have not run the compressor on the gen yet. I never heard of the hyper... . But saving $100 is probably not as important to me as the idea that the unit is going to work and that I am going to get help from the company if I need it. Now, how did I miss that $50 discount?

Hyper Engineering

Hi,
I installed the Hyper Enginering on my TT with a 13.5k a/c unit. I also work in the HVAC trade. I wanted to see if this unit would be a viable product for homes also. Here is a video I posted of a Yamaha 2000 trying to start the a/c unit. It never started it, at sea level, outdoor amb around 75.The Honda eu2000 had no problem starting the a/c. i tried at 6500ft elevation and the Honda failed to start the a/c without the converter turned off. I am trying to purchase the Micro Air 366 board for an install and test as I type this.
