If I understand what you did was to attempt to run your AC while plugged into house current through an extension cord. If so that cord has to be at least a 3 wire #12 cord and not more that 25 ft long. The cord has to be plugged into a circuit that is at least 20 amps. Anything less than this will result in the cord heating up and the voltage dropping to a point that the AC will either shut down or be damaged. This is the mim. for a short term test run and should not be considered for running for more that a few minutes.
If you intend to run the AC at home you should install at least a 30 amp circuit and receptacle close to the trailer to insure sufficient power. The AC will run with lower voltage, result of undersized wiring, but it will do damage to the compressor from overheating.
