7-way round pin?

As I get ready to pick up my 1963 Globetrotter, I'm trying to get ready. Problem is finding a 7-way round pin connector. Nobody seems to sell these. I tried online, and ordered one, and they sent me a 7-way flat. Finally in some dusty clearance bin I found a seven pin connector (male) that I bought for six bucks. Problem is I don't know for certain that it is what I want. It's about 1.5 inches in diameter and the top pin is longer and fatter than the others. There is a half inch long, 1/16 deep groove at the top (presumably to force the correct orientation) as well as two ridges at the top, flanking the groove, and three at the bottom (also for orientation, or for snugness?)

Is this the correct receptacle? If not where on earth does one find these?

Almost forgot: It says SAE J560 in it and is made by Phillips.

Just get a modern 7 way flat to put on your tow vehicle and replace the one on the trailer too, that way you will be able to hook up and go with any truck or use the truck with other trailers..
It is very easy to rewire and you will only need a screwdriver, some wire cutters, and the part. If you need a wiring diagram just ask or look it up in search.

The round pin connectors are superior to the flar pin connects, in that the terminals are self cleaning.

Not true with the flat pin. In fact one grain of sand can stop a flat pin connection from working.

Most any Airstream dealer should help you, if not we carry them in stock.

Sounds like you have the right one. FWIW, below is the original Signal Stat connector that came on my Overlander.

The ID reduction in some of the pin holes are hatched mud dauber nests.

I find the round pin connectors at truck supply stores. They are a standard connector on commercial tractor trailer rigs.

You did not fill in your profile with the type of vechile you are towing with. I use a Chevy truck now and have converted my two trailers over to the round flat pin connector that is standard with the newer trucks. Be aware there are two different wiring harnesses for the GM's and they sold me the wrong one and I had to modify it on the road to get the brakes to work right when the running lights are on. No biggy but a pain.

Thanks for all the help... Here is a pic I took of the receptacle. Also based on the attached diagram, it looks like the white is the fat pin, is that correct?

Doh! I just KNEW you were going to ask that, and while I think that is right (the diagram sure infers it), I can't say for sure.

Hopefully, someone will chime in, but if they do not, DavidZ71 has the round pin connectors, and might be able to help. Drop him a PM if this thread does not get a good followup.

i live in tucson az and i have been through the same experience as you, it sucks. theres a place called wheel equipment that sells the adapter your looking for. its made by velvac and is part number 591010. its a bit pricey but its well made. wwwvelvac.com
