6v batteries /2+2=x

If I run 2 6v batteries each rated at 200ah, do I end up with 200 or 400 12v amp hours"?

200. It's the capacity at 12 volts which is two batteries on series.

Nope. The amp hours would add only if the batteries are in parallel.

The answer above was in reply to a post which I had just deleted after realizing it was incorrect -- thanks anyway rmkrum.

Four Lifeline 6Vdc 300 amp-hour model 6ct batteries wired in both series and parallel will generate a 12Vdc 600 amp-hour battery capable of providing 300 amp-hours of power. These four batteries together weigh 368 pounds.

A comparable 12Vdv 600 amp-hour lithium iron phosphate battery is capable of providing at least 510 amp-hours of power. This battery weights 168 pounds.

Just remember you can't use that full 200Ah, so in reality you have 100Ah.

6V batteries have a safe draw down rate of 50%.

Basically what Switz said in simpler terms.

A lot. Just depends upon his much electrical power you "need" on a daily basis.

Four Lifeline model 6ct (6 Vdc at 300 amp-hours and 92 pounds each) batteries were around $1,600 less than two years ago. The single 12Vdc 600 amp-hour lithium at 168 pounds) was around $4,600 this past spring.

The four Lifelines woulds provide 300 amp-hours of power while the lithium can provide over 510 amp-hours of power. Current caveat on the lithium is it can not be charged below 32 degrees, so ours is mounted inside under the front sofa of the Classic.

The smaller 300 amp-hour lithium is mounted under the street side sofa just in front of the wheel well on the 23D.

I drove twice to Eugene, OR to pick up our two lithium batteries. It was a two day drive each way. We did not have the thought of a second trailer at the time of the first trip.
starting in 2016. Thus the "freight" charge was very high to get the batteries to the installer.

AM Solar should be able to ship the lithium battery systems via truck starting in 2016. Far more cost effective.
