40A Fuses?

The 12V electrical system in our '66 Overlander is protected by four 40A 1.25" long cylindrical glass fuses. I would like to carry a spare, but have checked at a couple of auto parts stores and that seem to only carry sizes up to 30A. Do any of you know where 40A fuses can be purchased?

Also, The owners manual stated that there are three 40A fuses that are used and one was supposed to be a spare. All four are hooked up on our trailer. Any idea what the 4th one might be for? Were there certain factory options that required use of the spare? I can't figure out what it might be for. I know an electric jack was added to our trailer at some time, but I doubt they'd have used the fuse for that given that the wire would have had to have been run the length of the trailer. I suspect that it would have been easier to connect into the battery feed from the tow vehicle connector, because that wire was already accessible at the trailer tongue. I supposed one of these days I'm going to have to pull the fuse and see what doesn't work.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

I have just purchased 40 & 50 amp fuses at our local auto stereo installation company (Stereo West). I know you can find them on the internet at multiple sites. They run about $5.00/four fuses. Can't help with where the fourth might be........I have a MH.

That 40 amp fuse is an "MDM."

They are not easily found, but we do carry them.
