30amp extension cord

I am having a 30amp box installed on the back of my house for my new AS. Can anyone tell me what the maximum length of a 30amp extension cord should be?

At least long enough to reach from the box to the trailer or trailer cord. Sorry, seriously, I would think 30 or so feet. Others will give you the whole scoop. Jim

You'll need to know the total amperage of all the appliances that will be run off the line, whether you have single or three phase and the voltage on the circuit. Then go on the web and do a search for an electrical wire size calculator.
If you are having the box installed by a licensed electrician, he (she) should have no issue sizing the wire for you (you still have to calculate the amperage of all appliances) If you are on the edge between two wire gauge sizes, go bigger.

I just had another thought - if you buy a pre-made 30 amp power chord, the manufacturer will have already sized it safely for you. I just purchased a 30 amp power chord at 25'. I don't know what the gauge is.

Camping world has them in their stores and on line. 25 to 30 feet I think. I have used a 30 amp rv cord extension on occasion. Total length I think 60feet including the one with the rv. Worked fine. Jim

Be totally sure the box is wired 30 amp and 120 Volt. 120, and the polarity is correct. Please check before hooking up trailer. Jim
