Bhooves mentioned he only uses a 30 amp cord. What kind of adapter is there to plug into the trailer 50 amp inlet? Is there a short 2 ft cord then plug into 30 amp cord?

Have you looked at and evaluated the Smartplug? There is absolutely no comparison and I'm sure Marinco Furrion and any other company that uses the L5-30 or 50 amp connectors would have anything to say but "I wish we had thought of that." Look at them. 20X more connection surface area. Heat from a small connection surface area is the problem.

I don't trust my "electrical skill" so I purchased a new 30 AMP cord and 50 to 30 adapter from the local Airstream dealer. I also purchased the 30 amp surge suppression device (Camping World had a great sale on it).

keep terminal clean

dirt and oxide cause resistance

consider wiping with anti -oxidant paste

This answer.

A side note: it is a bitch to wind or fold up the the 50 amp cord after using it in cold weather. For me it has proven to be a wrestling match that I have begin to fear that that I might lose.
Buy a new cord! The one that Airstream provides is very stiff. Look at eTrailer.com as they have a cord that has 90 degree ends on both ends and coils to less than 1' in diameter. Best buy I have made!

Earlier this year I replaced the original 50A power cord with a new one. I got tired of wrestling with the old, stiff cord. It also had had replacements on both ends. The new cord is much more flexible.

Since I want 50A service on the Airstream, I'm going to keep the new cord when we sell the Foretravel (I kept the old cord just for this reason). I really wanted to go with the SmartPlug, but the cost was far more than what I was willing to pay.

Sanding the prongs on a power cord is the WRONG thing to do.
When you sand the prongs you create peaks and valleys in the metal. Which reduces the contact area of the prongs. Thus reducing the ability of the prongs to carry the rated capacity. Not only that but the valleys are prone to holding moisture and dirt. This is where the corrosion occurs.
It may look nice and shiny after sanding. But it is not.

Probably some truth to that. The new product currently is the Smartplug that increases the contact area 20X literally over the Marinco /park power or Furrion plugs and inlets.
