18 33 - Firefly doesn’t give correct propane tank readings nor does it control Alde panel any more. We control heat with Alde panel behind shower. Alde unit shuts down randomly. First repair appointment at Colonial is February.

I just got off the phone with Steve from Firefly Integrations. Here's the deal...

Airstream installed the "crossover cable" connecting the Firefly controller to the Alde controller backwards. There is a service bulletin for a range of serial numbers. An interim fix is to set your temperature BEFORE turning on radiant heat. If you have radiant heat turned on and attempt to change the temperature on the panel, it will crash the Alde controller.

It's getting down into the 20's tonight. I'll test and report in the morning. I'm not going to be able to get my Airstream into service until after the winter.

Thanks Russ. Guess buying the first model always requires some patience. But really - they wired it backwards? I would expect more testing from AS. Hope you stay warm tonight.

Hi

Apparently, until the new firmware came out, the cable did pretty much nothing. Because of this, there was no way to test it. Over the last 5 decades, I have seen a *lot* of people do these sort of serial i/o cables "backwards". It's a very easy mistake to make.

I just checked my trailer temperatures remotely as I am away visiting family. Interior temperature is holding steady while the outdoor temp is sitting at 26.5 F. The technique of setting temperature prior to engaging the radiant heat is working.

I just purchased a 33 classic and I am having an issue with the Alde heating system not coming on. When I do get it on the towel rack gets hot but the floor in the shower is not. I have the unit connected to 50amp service. I have had it only a week. Any ideas

I don't know about the Classic 33, but in the Classic 30 the heated shower floor is much more marketing gimmick than reality. The heated fluid in the Alde system circulates through pipes that ring the trailer and provide the radiant heating. The small loop of pipe under the shower floor is completely inadequate to provide any real heat, at least on the 30, and I'm suspicious that this may be your problem in the 33. The fact that your towel rack is getting hot is a pretty good indicator that the system is working as designed once you get it to turn on. You may want to peruse the "Much Ado About Alde" thread for some tips on the Alde system.

Thank you for that info mikeinca. I am going to call Air Stream today and see if I can get an appointment. I have had little luck keeping the alde heating system going. Again thanks!

RVforfun, if you have not called AS I'd suggest you do as the might resolve your issue over the phone. If the Alde comes on then goes off your issue could be the calibration of the Alde panel temperature. Might check either the numerous posts in the Alde section of the forums or the owners manual.

I did contact some by the name of John at AS and sent a pic as well to his email but have not heard back from him. Guess they are busy.

RVforfun- call them. Emails eventually are read but call is much quicker and concise

I went to the factory with some results. The Alde system does work now but only on propane. It does not work on electric. I was told that the wiring was reversed. I can tell you that there has been an update in the now built Alde units but they are not doing the update on the units that are already built and out at the dealer.

Now I have a leaking roof on a unit that is less than three month old. Airstream says it will dry out inside the walls. Right!

AlDE system is now working

It took two tries to the factory to get the Alde system to work properly but it seems to be working as it should. I can now take a shower that is longer then 2 2/2 minutes long.. It is my understanding that there were several problems and adjustments needed. If you find that you have not been able to get the system to work properly I suggest that you take it to the factory and see Artie who is in service. They also fixed a number of other issues while there.
