2018 33' Classic Alde Heater not staying on

Happy Trails
Has anyone else had trouble keeping the heat on in there 33' Classic? Every night it seems to shut off and then gets down in the low 60's and I have to get up and restart. Any advice
Thank You

If it is a 2 wire thermostat short the wires and see if the heater will remain on. If it does remain on the problem is in the stat. If it still short cycles the problem is in the heater.

Hi

In the 2018 Classic's, AS (in their infinite wisdom) appears to have integrated the thermostat control into the Firefly panel system. Way back in 2017, the Alde control setup was via an independent panel. It's quite possible that they have a firmware bug in their "clone" of the Alde control system. (Yes, I have a *lot* of experience ...errr ... creating .... firmware bugs)

Gary and Tina welcome. As Uncle Bob pointed out already that Airstream made some considerable changes to the Alde system with the 2018. Those of us with the 2017 Classic are already obsolete. I have the 2017 but I never had a problem with it staying on. It may be helpful for you to read the thread "much ado Alde" here on the forum to gain some insight on how the system used to run not that it would help much with the new configuration into the firefly. I am sure Bud, James and a few others will be popping in soon to offer advice.

Oh, I just remembered something that might help. Make sure you do not have the timer set for anything. I did have a problem with the system turning itself off so I just turned the timer off completely and the problem went away.

We just picked up our 2018 33 foot Classic last weekend, and we're off to a 1 week trip in the AM. We have not gotten consistent hot water after running the "shower boost" for about 10 minutes before the shower. I did notice that there is also an Alde thermostat in the bathroom, in addition to the Firefly panel. Based on your comment, perhaps I should try controlling through the Alde thermostat instead of the firefly.

There will definitely be a learning curve with this system. I hope once I get to know it, I will see the advantages over the old forced hot air heat and 6 gallon water heater.
Thanks very much. Any suggestions for hot water would be greatly appreciated!

Hjnj....there is a thread regarding the mixing valve for the 2017 Classic that may be helpful. Again, the 2018 system is different from the 2017. I don't know how much different the two systems are in regards to adjusting the mixing valve but it may be worth a try to adjust yours to see what happens.

At this point with only knowledge of the 2017 Alde system I would suggest you check your Gylcol fluid level just to make sure there is enough fluid. On the 2017 models, at least ours and others, the factory correctly filled the reservoir during manufacture but the fluid had a tendency to settle out and appear to loose fluid when actually it was just air in the system taking up space. Some bleeding and filling with new Alde fluid solved the issue.

That said, now that AirstreamInc is on the forum and monitoring and offering help I'd jump at their post. Then when your issue is resolved if you could post the findings everyone would appreciate it.

Bud

Hi

If the Alde thermostat is still "in the loop" but just moved in location .... check to be sure it does not have a time setting on it. There is a feature on the standard thermostat to change the temperature based on a schedule.

Obviously we really don't have a lot of data on the 2018's yet ...

I very much your suggestions. I am camping now, so will follow the threads and see how it goes. Will repost when I have had a chance to explore a little and hopefully resolve the problem. Will have to order some fluid from Airstream, I suppose, if I find that it is low.

Hi

The fluid is weird enough that you may have a hard time finding it when you need it. If you toss in the issue of not mixing brands it gets crazy. Even the dealers have a hard time getting the Alde brand stuff. Some have snuck it in bootleg from Canada. When they topped up my trailer at delivery, they put in a bottle and a half of the stuff.

Happy Trails ya all thank you for all the answers. We arrived last night and the thermostat and Alde had been working okay. But last night again it just shut off in the middle of the night and here on the coast it was chilly and it got down to the low 60's. As soon as I woke up I pulle doff the cover and turned the power on the Alde and it started working. So I am thinking the Firefly shuts it off and it will not turn back on for some reason. I did talk to the guys at our Dealer and we tried what they said turn everything off set temp and leave alone.

Hello Gary & Tina,

We have a 2018 Classic 30' and just started using the Alde heating system (electric only) and are satisfied with the heat but did notice this morning when we raised the temp it did not seems to respond. FYI, I contacted Firefly Integrations (574) 825-4600 about a different issue and they told me my software was outdated but they would be happy to help me fix the issue. Since this is a brand new unit it should have never left the dealer with old software so I will be doing the fix myself instead of taking it back to the dealer. Hope this helps!
Peace,
Mike & Suzanne

I have a 2018 Classic and having the same problem as well. Entering freezing weather I am concerned about the heat kicking off while I am away. Not good.

Already had a firmware upgrade on my Firefly panel, but the issue still isn't resolved.
