Here's a link to a YouTube video install of this product. The trailer is not the same but the installation should be similar and answer some of your questions.

If you empty-out your wardrobe, and pull up that thin-panel wardrobe floor.... you'll be looking down into an area which will allow you to make an installation. (You'll also be greatly disappointed in how unkempt and disarrayed the workmanship is with regard to plumbing and electrical layout.)

But, after you recover from the shock of seeing how amateur and sloppy Airstream threw stuff together in that compartment... (and view the cheap shortcuts they made with regard to electrical connections)... you will doubtless find a good location for your surge-protector/"filter", as you say...)

The floor-panel is simply laid-in without fasteners, so it's also an easy access area should you need to "reset" anything. (In fact,... if you purchase a thick piece of lexan/acrylic/Plexiglas/etc to lay upon the floor panel... you might cut out a square from the floor panel... then with the plexi laid upon the panel...you'll have a "viewing window" down to the LED indicators on the protector.)

A year ago when I was researching what surge protection I wanted to use I remember some folks having issues with the fault circuits failing on some of these units at the most inopportune times. A solution one person had was to wire it in using a plug into a socket in a manner that it was simple to bypass if it failed. The downside is it took up more room. Take some time to figure out how you would debug, bypass and replace the unit while out on the road.

I choose to solve two issues with one item by going with the Hughes Autotransformer to assist with under voltage situations as well as surge protection all in one easily bypassed unit. Down side is it takes up a bigger part of my cargo area in my tow vehicle than I would like and is a bit expensive. But it has a very low failure rate.
