2013 20' FC Sudden Loss of Power to Stereo - Solved

Hey -

i have a 2013 FC 20' that is just over a year old. Last trip the Sony Amp suddenly stopped working. I did a bit of troubleshooting on the road and deduced there was no power to that area at all.

Once back home, i resolved to look at it. i realize i am under warranty, but have already modified some electrical on the vehicle and was concerned that it was something i had done

I had some time today so I checked the wiring from the Sony down through the trailer 12V distribution panel. Ground was fine, but i had no continuity in the positive. i traced it here and there checking along the way. side note: sure wish i had an electrical schematic: i didnt receive on in my manual and there isn't anything that i can find online.

Anyway, this is what i found:

So now i'm a bit flummoxed - is that glue they put on? what is going on?
Clearly there is some corrossion, but i dont see any water damage anywhere. it's all very odd.

i'll clean it up and ensure things are tight for the next trip, but ultimately I want to fix this and since it's my trailer i'm tempted to just splice the two together, or use a new Packard connector. Anyone know what this is?

I took a closer look - and that white gunk must have been some sealant they used [pipe sealant?] it was thick and wouldnt allow the connector to click closed. i cleaned it out with a metal pick on both ends and it looked good as new. definitely wasnt water damage or anything.

clicked closed, case solved.

If you are worried about corrosion ... try putting a bit of dielectric grease (inexpensive and available at most hardware stores) on the connections / plugs.

very strange, very. Why would any sealant be used there?

I also have done a lot of electrical mods to my new 20'. Tri metric meter, Progressive Dynamics converter/charger, my own solar system, switches for other things. I could not wait for the warrantee to expire, had to do them ... ya know.
