2012 27FB - Need wiring help / advice

I have replaced many outlets, and wired a basement for 120V. However the Airstream electrical has me puzzled. And to top it off, on my 2012 27FB, I have a loose white wire (see attached picture) under the bed.

At this stage I am deferring to the forums on what to do.

1. Why is there a unhooked white wire? YIKES! Should I just go ahead and hook it up with the other whites?

2. How is the best way to wire up my surge inside surge protector? EMS-HW30C. The attached picture shows the relay- I just need to determine which one is hot (process of elimination) and the side trailer input. Then I also need to find the natural and ground.

Thanks,
Jason

Unless I am mistaken, the wiring in your photo is part of the 12 volt DC wiring, not the 120 volt AC. The solenoid switch on the right of the photo is the store/use battery disconnect.

The 120 volt distribution is done at the breaker panel housed with the converter.

JD

I admit this whole AC / DC and Inverter / converter is getting me a little confused. I was hoping that the picture was the inbound 120 volt system. If not, then that means the breaker panel in the kitchen is where I will need to work. I think I can pull out the converter / breaker panel and see if there is space behind it.

So here is the big question of the night. If this is the picture of the DC, and there is a white wire loose, what should I do? Should I just cap the White wire as I haven't determined what is not working? Or should I hook it up to the rest of the wire bank of wires, as it has been unsheathed. I will look tomorrow to see if its labeled- doubt it.

The photo you show is of the 12 volt side of the power systems. Probably located near the front of the trailer, and has been mentioned the Use/Store switch is in the photo. I think what is in the black box is the connection of the umbilical cord with the lighting on the rear of the rig (and the running lights)

I would just attach the white wire to the block with all the other white wires. It is the negative for something in your trailer. I have no idea why it is disconnected, since it is a 2012, it should be still under warranty and you might have a dealer look at it.

Think of it like this:

With the exception of the air conditioner, microwave, part of the refrigerator, and perhaps part of the water heater all the appliances in the trailer use 12 volts DC.

When not connected to a 120 volt AC source:

The 12 volts is supplied by a battery (or more).

One just has to live without the AC and microwave.

The water heater and refer use propane as a fuel, but need the 12 volts to power the control boards, or brains.

The lighting, furnace(while also burning propane), and water pump run from the voltage supplied by the batteries.

When connected to a 120 volt AC supply the following happens:

The ac and microwave will now function.

The convertor changes the 120 volt AC power to 12 volt DC, which is used to recharge the battery and mostly power the 12 volt appliances.

The refer's 12 volt control board sees the 120 volts ac and turns off the propane burner, activates a 120 volt heating element, and goes about keeping the beer cold.

Your trailer may or may not have a 120 volt option for the water heater. If so, there are likely two switches for control. One is a small 12 volt switch with a red light next to it. The other is usually a normal 120 volt light switch. You chose which system is heating water by which switch is on.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

JD
