12 volt tvs
What are your recommendations for 12 volt tvs. TV/DVD player is a plus. I don't see anything available larger than a 24 inch.
Also looking for recommendations on a wall mounting system.

I have a Curtis that I bought from Tigerdirect. I bought 12 v adaptor from Amazon. Best Buy's Insignia brand under 24 inch are usually 12v powered. The small elements brand from Walmart are as well. You just have to look around.

12v TVs are too expensive for what you get and there is very little choice. Jensen off 120v LED TVs run at low wattage so just use an inverter if off grid. The Insignia 28" with DVD uses 48w. I uses a power brick to transform 120v to 18v DC. Its currently on sale now for $169.

Are you talking about a 120 AC to 12v DC inverter? How may watts? Is there much power drain in the conversion?
Thanks,
Marshall

Can you give me more details please? Is a "power brick" the same as an inverter? What is on sale for $169, the TV or the power brick? Where can I get one? Do you loose much battery drain with the power brick?
Thanks
Marshall

I went to one of the big box appliance stores (?I think Best Buy?) to look at TV's. I ran across a RCA 15" for ~$100 that had a 120vAC to 12vDC transformer. I've been using it for a couple years in my Safari. Of the 4 TV's in my trailers, this one gets the best/most channels using the antenna. It does not play DVDs. Sound is ok, but not great.
I mounted it on a swinging arm, so that we can watch it from either direction inside the trailer.
The only issue: I had to get parts to make the power supply wire (12v wall male plug to 12v TV male plug) at Radio Shack.

I totally screwed up this post, too early for me I guess.
What I wanted to say:
12v TVs are too expensive for what you get and there is very little choice. LED TVs run at low wattage so just use an inverter if off grid. The Insignia 28" with DVD uses 48w and is priced at $169 at Best Buy. However, it uses a power brick to transform 120v to 18v DC so if you use an inverter the power goes DC to AC and then Insignia power brick then transforms back to 18v.
I currently have a Sony 23" LCD TV in my AS. I'm going to upgrade it with the Insignia 28" with DVD then yank the Sony head out of the cabinet to make more room for storage. I'm going to use a decent Bluetooth speaker mounted under the TV connected to the TV with a 3.5mm cable to the Aux port on the BT speaker. The internal speakers on the TV are terrible. These BT speakers are getting better and better. I can also pair my iPhone to the speaker to play back my music.

My 300 watt pure sine wave inverter runs my 24" led tv, my Directv receiver and my King Quest 4100 satellite antenna with no problem. The inverter output is very stable and very clean. Lots cheaper than a purpose built 12vdc television.

While some readers of this thread may be interested in a small TV I am looking for info on larger combo TV/DVD player units at least 24" or some other way to have my cake and eat it too.

Mine is a Samlex 300watt Pure Sine Wave inverter. Cost me about $150. Pretty simple install.

I have a cheap inverter I have not used to run my TV. I don't know if it is pure sine or modified sine wave output. Is a modified sine wave a no no for a TV? How about a laptop? How about the fridge? I have regularly run my Honda 2000i for 110. I think that puts out pure sine wave but am not sure, anybody?

The Honda puts out very clean and stable power. A modified sine wave inverter would probably be fine for your computer as the output will be rectified by the computers power supply anyway. As for a TV -- frankly, I don't know, but unwilling to find out...

Do you have a family member currently serving in the US military? One of the few perks they have is access to electronics at discounted prices. Perhaps they could "gift" you one for your Birthday or "special occasion"???

A modified sine wave inverter will work just fine for your television and laptop. Most have low conversion losses, and low standby losses. Many of the pure sine wave inverters (but not all) have high standby losses, and that includes those WFCO units that Airstream supplies as factory equipment. Most (but not all) sine wave inverters operate at pretty high efficiency these days, like the modified sine wave ones... in the range of 90% + conversion.

I paid $80 for my 22 inch led tv/DVD after rebate at tigerdirect last year. It was remanufactured. The 19 inch Element led tv only is $99 at Walmart. Both are 12v power but come from store with 110 transformer. I paid $ 8 from Amazon for plug in 12 v power plug for trailer. The Curtis draws less than 3 amps and no power loss from inverter. I'm sure the tv only models draw less.
I think this is the way to go. I do not advise paying the price for the tvs marketed as 12v and sold with included 12v cord. You will pay a premium for this convenience sand get nothing else than not having to identify 12v tv and shop for separate cord.

This is the inverter we purchased in 2011 just to run a TV and charge computers off a 12v plug. 120w, lightweight and small footprint and its a pure sine wave inverter. I can run my current Sony 23" LCD that is rated at 95w.
