Angry 12 Volt problem when on shore power

Our ground fault breaker started blowing. We are new for our 1991 airstream excello 1000 and have it perminately parker. The lights worked but were very dim and getting dimmer. When we came back the next weekend, all the lights were out, and so was the Refrig. I started checking things out and suspect that it was the battery charger. I put a large charger on it and things started working fine. I suspect it is the charger or inverter, but thought I would check with the experts, since I am a new-be. Do I simpely replace the existing one?

Try replacing the breaker first.

the ground-fault breaker where? in the trailer itself, or at the supply outlet where you're permanently parked and connect the trailer?

your battery charge controller runs off 110VAC. find the outlet your charge controller is plugged into, and test it for line voltage??

if you have no power at that outlet, then it's likely a 110VAC problem, and work back toward the supply.

if you do have power to the outlet, then it's likely the charge controller, and it could be time for a new one.

we use an Iota DLS55/IQ4 that's generally worked well, but there are other brands and models available.

best,

Check the polarity of the shore power. It is also possible someone miswired something in the trailer. Does your unit have a built in reverse polarity indicator? Even if it does it's a good idea to get a plug in outlet checker. They are cheap insurance and idiot proof to use. Will tell you about several miswired and polarity problems. Just plug it in.

The breaker doesn't seem to be the problem. With the breaker working, the batteries still totally discharges to the point that lights and refrig would not work.

I am sure it is the charge control. I was not sure if there was a charger and a seperate inverter, or if it was all in one unit. I kept running across reference to a Univolt.

Is there a recommendation between PowerMax and Iota DSL?
