Which models have bunk beds, and other questions

We are looking to buy a cheaper (like under $40k) AS for our family of 4 to use to travel with our kids to see the country instead of flying everywhere and to be able to take our dog with us. Camper will also serve as backup guest sleeping space for company at our house.

One of the only things our kids have asked for is if we can try to get a trailer that has bunk beds and that they not have to share a bed. My husband and I need at least a queen. Looking for info on which models have this.

We have a gas Lexus 460 that can tow most things, but are likely switching to a Q7 TDI soon.

Any input from experienced AS peeps is appreciated.

05/06 30' Safari Bunkhouse is the only option in that price range. You're more than welcome to come down to North Port if you want to check one out.

I've seen a few older AS's retrofitted to add bunks, but think I've only seen this with models that already had mid twin beds. They gave up storage space to add the bunks. We thought about that option for a while, but didn't seem right for us. We've had ours for a little over a month now with 10 nights camping. Very glad we held out for the actual bunkhouse model. Good luck in your search!!! It's a great family model!
I'd be glad to talk about things I wish I'd done differently when purchasing, or things to look for. PM me if you'd like to!
Dave

Is there any sort of database for which models have single beds we could add a bunk to? We're used to travelling light; I don't think we need a lot of storage.

Which models have bunk beds, and other questions

I just bought a 2017 23D bunk flying cloud. It has a smaller main bed, but a single bunk and two couch beds. They claim it could sleep 7, 2 main back bed, one in bunk, two in each of the couch beds. I think it's more like 5. if you and the wife can sleep in the single bed in back, if not it would easily sleep 4, each with own bed.

I know this is more than you want to spend, but I think that for the past 5 years thay have made the single bunk like this on various models, so maybe you could get an older one.

The only way I have seen these designated are by adding the word "bunk" in the model. Like mine above, or 25FB Bunk....

Good luck

Thx

If you can find one used (they are elusive, not many manufactured between 1999 and 2009 from what I understand) you might consider a 25SS (six sleeper).

Our 25SS has worked incredibly well for our family of 4...

This thread has some good info:

And here are some photos of ours:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f370...al-106742.html

The rear corner bed is slightly wider than the 23' (about 8" more width) and you could also add a bunk over the rear corner (but not needed in our case - we have configured ours with 3 very nicely sized beds.....)

Cliff, is this your trailer that you're selling? What's the story?

My Argosy has the mid twins with original Argosy fold down bunks, bunks fold down to turn beds into two couches. Gives me a sleeping capacity of 6 with no loss of storage space.

Definately not selling. Just offering a first hand walk through so you can see one in person. Once I found one and actually saw it in person, it was an easy decision for the wife and I.

Ok. Thanks. Maybe we will take you up on that.

We are a little hesitant on the size of a 30'. We watched a 5th wheel trying to turn off Clark today and were wincing.

We have had 2 different VW Westfailias and want something more practical with 2 kids. I kinda don't like being woken up in the middle of the night by someone peeing right next to my head. And the idea of having a trailer that guests can sleep in at our house without actually being in our house is appealing. But the idea that there are 2 beds that we wouldn't have to break down sofas or dinettes to sleep on every night seems glorious.

Yes, I know. Sorry if I'm being bothersome by asking. I'm just trying to save myself time from having to scroll through all the plans.

It's a 1973 Argosy 24. The bunks came from a 1975 Argosy 26 donor.
