Built a shelter using cedar posts and concrete pad and roof matching the house. Gets a bit of sun on one side but have the tire covered so no problem there. North Texas weather can be a beast too, so the shelter is a good way to go. Also put a cover on your AC and throw a couple of bags of moth balls on each side of AC.....keeps squirrels, tree rats, etc. from thinking about setting up house inside your AC unit. Enjoy!!

We had one of those carport/RV shelters installed while we were on the road picking up our new-to-us 2006 25'FB. We had the rear and one side done to the ground for prevailing winds. Nice to come home to a shelter, especially with last spring's hailstorms. No damage to the AS, thankfully!

One thing to note, I ordered 12' thinking that was to the peak...it's not, 12' was to the beginning of the wall curve. Lots of "wasted" height for an Airstream. I did add 2' to the standard (12'x31') size make the width 14', which allowed for some shelving and easy access into the trailer. Easier backing her in, tooClick image for larger version

Glad to see youngsters and kiddos in the AS "adventure" world! I'm also in Texas and the first thing I did was have a shed built. I found some locals for concrete and erection of the materials I purchased at Muellers. The total cost was $2751 including a 50 amp connection for running the AC (to keep dirt robbers at bay). It was all done right and I feel much better - especially after having a new pickup experience a hail storm at DFW airport in June.

We just secured a covered cold storage slot, principally due to concern about the fall and spring "freeze-thaw" cycles that exploit small gaps and turn them into big ones. HOA "preference" also figured in. If you have no freeze-thaw, other post-ers have addressed sun, hail, etc. Welcome to the derangement group! We are thrilled with our AS after just 6 months. Wish we had done this when the kids were that age!

HOA won't let us park at home or build a cover even though we have the space. Fortunately a neighbor lets me park it (for a small fee) in the corner of one of the warehouses of a business he owns. In the seven years we've owned it I could have easily paid for a nice shelter at my house for what I've paid in rent. One of the disadvantages of a strict HOA.

It’s hard to beat secure indoor storage, if you can find it.

Buy or build a metal canopy frame. Secure it to the ground with mobile home anchors and screw or weld the frame joints together. Do not use the fabric cover that comes with the frame, instead buy shade cloth online from greenhouse or Tarps.com. The shade cloth will let wind thru and not take the whole frame to Kansas in a big thunderstorm, but at the same time it will keep the sun, leaves, hail and small branches from damaging your unit.

Smile Invest in a COVER

Spend some money and invest in a good fabric cover. I bought one two seasons ago and I now swear by them. It gets hot out here in CA up in the foothills, but it covers up the exterior very well. It even helps keep it warm in the winter so I can work out there in it. It is a light gray color with a off white/eggshell colored top. Lots of edge/hem/zipper reinforcement, straps to keep it from flying away supplemented with inexpensive bunjees.

They are not terribly expensive, I have a 26' Streamline and my cover was less than $200 on sale-- look and buy offseason for best prices. Amazon!
My cover has vertical zippers allowing flaps to be used as awnings, and to gain access while it's stored in winter or offseason.

You need two people to install and remove one, one on each end of the trailer. That is the only drawback so far. Get a cover and leave it outside.

Just curious, what happens with the moisture? Being in Florida, I'd be concerned that a cover would cause marring of the finish due to the moisture between the cover and the AS. If I were in Arizona, I think it wouldn't be much of an issue, but here...not sure if this would work?

Hi

The gotcha isn't so much moisture as road grit / blowing dust. It can turn the inside of a cover into sandpaper .... Even if you wash down the trailer after using it, if you life in a dusty area, it can come back while you are in storage.

We also have a Bambi but it’s 16 ft that we went cross country with our two son 16 & 14 to pick up. Storage is a challenge but double duty things (ie mason jar that is my measuring cup) to collapsible everything (dish drain board, colander/ microwave plate cover...double duty again) help. The way we solved clothing was to bag and bin it below the bed. And of course tow vehicle for bulk or non perishable food items....again bins. Click image for larger version

Since this is / was our second to the most valuable acquisition, we saved up and had a post and beam building built for the off season / inside storage. During the summer, we simply put it under the lean to portion.
