What's with the flamingos?

I'm a new AS owner and introduced my wife and myself a week or two ago along with our new trailer, "Dimples". Anyway, what is the deal with Airstreams and Pink Flamingos? Somehow, they seem to go together, but I don't know why. How did this all start?

I don't have the answer . . . but trailer park, Pink Flamingos and AS, it just seems right.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

The Flamingos go back a long way with Airstreams and other old time trailers as well. I don't know how it began.

Am SOB refers to some other brand trailer.

Flamingos are a '50s thing. Back in the '50s flamingos were common in people's gardens, like garden trolls today. Sticking a flamingo in the ground by your AS was like bringing your yard with you. It was probably very funny back then. You must be much younger than I not to remember the flamingos in the front yard.

Flamingo's?

Hi, we have had our Airstream just over five years now, and without Flamingos. During our stay at the Jackson Rancheria rally, we drove into town and bought two unique metal Flamingos for our trailer. They have not been displayed yet due to the freezing weather we camped in. [South Dakota, zero degrees]

Why I've never heard of such a thing...

Not sure what those birds are doing in front of my AS.

We parked our AS, put out our sign, and they just showed up!
Then they broke into our AS and drew pictures of themselves all over our bedsheets and jammies.

I figure the flamingo yard art was a kind of graceful-elegant addition to gardens everywhere in the fifties, and they must have migrated over to the trailer parks like KOA etc. What do the rest of you think? The ground here in Oklahoma, well you just can't stick em in the ground, cause it's too blasted hard...Why is bubble gum pink?

I never thought I'd have a flamingo, but I was looking for a spot in a campground and Scrapirony-2 (Mike) stopped me and handed me a little pink flamingo and now it's wedged between the dashboard and the windshield. You just can't avoid it.

Look's like Mike and Tracy's MoHo in post # 17.

Yup.....it is indeed, Gene. I couldn't resist this photo opportunity at the Dead Horse 3 Rally. It is the most flamingo-decorated Airstream I have ever seen....and, that's just the outside!
