We've joined the Airstream "club"!!

So excited, we just purchased our first Airstream. She's a 1978 Ambassador, in pretty good condition. As soon as we fix up a few things, we plan on taking her to either South Beach State Park, or Whaler's Rest, if they allow dogs. We have 2 American Eskimos.

We have a 2004 Ford Ranger that pulls her just fine, although we most likely will be looking for a different vehicle.

We will be replacing the floor (most likely with wood flooring), the mattresses, and getting the couch recovered (when I find someone to do that). We're not sure if the range or fridge works, will be testing that soon. The air works! Also re-doing the screens, and figuring out what to do with the front window, it looks like the weatherstripping leaked and the window is partially "frosted". The step doesn't work, so we'll have to figure that out too. The curtains look ok, I hope they hold up when I wash them!\

Now I just have to think of a uniquely wonderful name for her!

Happy camping everyone!

Enjoy! The AS will keep you entertained with little 'maintenance' items throughout your ownership.... at times it will seem the roles reverse, but it is a relationship, after all. Welcome aboard!

Congrats on your new family 'member'...We have a similar model, and you can see some of the stuff we've done to our rig...

Speaking from personal experience, you'll indeed need another tow vehicle...Before we got our Excursion, we towed our 28ft AS a couple of times with our 89 Big Bronco - Let's just say I had to pay great attention with that short WB Bronco! I felt like the 'tail' could wag the dog at almost any moment... Your Ranger can't be much better in that regard, so be safe out there!

With the heavier, long WB Excursion, we almost don't even know the AS is back there, and passing Semi's don't even effect us with the big 'air bubbles' around their rigs...

Happy trails...

Thanks Ray & Pat. Our ranger tows great, it stops on a dime, and didn't wobble around at all. It's set up to tow 5,300 and our airstream weighs 4800 (without filling the water tank, etc). We travel pretty light tho, not alot of extra stuff. That might change tho the more we use it! My husband is retired and I'm about 5 years out, can't wait to be full timers!
