Well, we finally did it....
we put a deposit on a 2012 Airstream International Serenity today! I (we) have been sort of hovering around the idea of buying an Airstream for a couple of years now and today, my wife and I decided that it was time.
First, the Airstream we decided we liked the best was a 16! We know that lots of you really like your bigger models but we decided that the 16 was perfect for our use. We chose a nice little International Serenity with Taupe Ultraleather, solar charging and the inverter. We are sailors so we are accustomed to spending time in small spaces and the wet bath is just fine as far as we are concerned. The bed is awesome (I am 6'3" and my wife is just 5'0") and the panoramic windows in the back lend a feeling of openness that is just nice. We purchased Airstreams new exterior bicycle rack and opted for a Reese Dual Cam Hitch system.
Our tow vehicle is a late model Ford F-150 that should be overkill for this little trailer.
We have taken a liking to tent camping in Florida over the past few years and I am sure that the little Airstream will be a very nice addition to our little winter vacation. We also intend to do some local (New England) camping in the “shoulder” seasons with the 16’. We just can’t wait to go back and pick it up! Oh yeah, we purchased it from Colonial Airstream in NJ. What a nice group these people are! Patrick is as knowledgeable about his product as any salesman I have ever met. No pressure, a very nice discount from the first and just a polite, respectful answer to my many questions. I’m a mechanic by trade so my questions tend to be pretty specific. Patrick knows his stuff. It was just nice to run into him.
Well, that is enough for now. I’ll be floating in and out of these forums and I’ll report on the first ride/camping adventure after we get her home in a couple of weeks.
