We pulled the trigger and made the purchase...

...on our first ever Airstream. A 2009 International Signature 25 FB. We head out today with 3 kids, 1 dog and several hundred questions. It is is in great shape and was rarely used and stored indoors for the past 9 years. Our patience waiting to purchase a local Airstream paid off when we found out it suddenly sold so we just decided to buy this much nicer unit and we couldn't be happier.
I'm sure there will be many, many questions to come and I appreciate all the help.

Hi

Welcome !!!

On a ~9 year old trailer (unless they have already been replaced) the tires and batteries are past their use by dates. The battery is slightly less of an issue than the tires. Having one blow out is a pretty major pain. If the batteries *have* been replaced, it's quite possible that the "new" ones are ready for a changeout. Anything over about 5 years is getting into the "questionable" range for lead acid cells.

Worth checking on *any* "new to you" trailer are the brakes. They may be fine, they may need a bit of TLC. The main point in getting them looked at is that you then *know* when that was and who did it. You also have the report on their status straight from the guy who did it ( assuming you don't pull the wheels yourself).

None of this is so vital that it's time to cancel your first trip. Have fun and get to know the trailer. Just schedule some time to get the checks and work done fairly soon. There are going to be a lot of little things to learn and poke at. You now have a "new project" ....

Have fun !!!!

Bob

Just go easy driving, enjoy the view, and remember you need a great deal more room to maneuver and stop.

Good for you! You have already received lots of good advice on the things to look out for on a used trailer so I will forgo repeating them. Ask lots of questions as there are a lot of knowledgeable folks on this forum that are willing to share their knowledge. But most of all, take your time and enjoy you new to you Airstream. They really are a special piece of kit.
