We just bought our first Airstream!

After some time looking around, we just found and purchased our first Airstream trailer! It's sitting in our driveway waiting for its first trip!

Initially we were looking for a vintage trailer, but we soon found out that if we didn't want to do much work to it, we'd have to pay about the same or more a vintage renovated trailer than for a much younger Airstream.
So we found a 1995 21' Sovereign. It's the perfect size for the two of us, our dog and possibly our 2 cats.

We've never owned a travel trailer before. We're living in Austin, TX so we'll hopefully get experience soon by visiting many parks around Austin in the upcoming months (take advantage of the warm Texas winter months).
Come say 'hi' if you see us!!

Fixing up an old Airstream is expensive. You do not get as good prices on the replacement parts as the factory gets when they buy in quantity, you pay for someone's time to tear out the non-functional items, then you pay for the time to install the replacement parts. The best deals come at the end of the camping season when people realize they no longer want to camp or tour and sell their trailers at a big discount. The other time for bargains is when driving member of the family gets to sick or too old to drive or in the worst case, dies.

Great job on your camper! We are new with a 1970 31' sovereign. We have only camped in the yard but can't wait to go to a nice park " Ohio"

Congratulations! Great to have another Texan on the forums. I do believe there is a Rally coming up soon in your area. Look in the "Rally Zone" threads. We are going to our first one next weekend after traveling most of the Summer. Can't wait to visit with a group of other Airstream owners.

Congratulations on the "new" Airstream. We are loving our 1989 Excella. We have had a chance to lots of camping in her. You will have lots of fun and you have a BIG state to explore. My only thought on it is if you are going to take your cats and dog along you will want to thoroughly check out your air conditioning system. Leaving them in the AS in TX might be a little warm...at least in the summer time! Good luck! Be sure to post some pictures!

Congratulations on your purchase. I have had one for a year now and have really enjoyed working on it and being part of the AIORFORUMS community where I have found nothing but good advice and lots of helpful people.

New Trailer

Congratulations! We're in San Antonio and bought our first airstream in July, a '93 34' Excella! We're in the process of customizing it and not finding it too cost prohibitive. Enjoy!

Just tried the heater this morning, 32 degrees outside and 75 degrees inside within the half hour. Not bad and the pilot worked on first try! I'm stoked!

I am a new owner this week. Decided Airstream was for me on a Saturday, saw one Monday, has offer passed on, found one Wednesday evening 100 miles away, drove up Thursday to see, purchased on the spot, drove home aand got in. Late, left for Ireland Friday toescort a tour group and will pickup the29th. What a quick education I got on value, price, layouts etc etc. I really thank this forumfor the. Education.

I have a 2006 25' safari, beautiful, just beautiful. Plan to go out Nov 8 for three nights. Sbb

Congratulations!

We just returned from our first weekend trip. We went camping at a park at Lake Travis, just west of Austin (no hookups). Next weekend, we'll try to take it to a 'real' RV campground with full hookups.

Some pictures (taken with my phone) attached.
