We finally bit the bullet!

After reading the forums here and looking for a couple of years, we finally bought our first Airstream! (Yes, we like to ease into things, can you tell?) It's a 2002 Classic, 28 ft., and we're kind of thrilled we are no longer Airstream wannabes! Looking forward to our new adventure, and gaining more perspective as we go along, with plenty of help from all of you! Thanks so far for all your tips, questions and ideas, which I felt put us ahead of the curve before we even got started. Hope to meet you on the road!

Great Choices!

Congratulations first of all for choosing an Airstream, and second for choosing the 2002 28' Classic, a beautiful Airstream.
Sadly, it will be 2027 before you can join the Vintage Airstream Club.

Hey Thanks for the welcome! We were hoping to hit it ''right'' on our first try. We've known people who liked to trade a lot, hoping for that perfect fit. I'm just hoping for a long life together in perfect harmony!

No, we haven't been camping yet, as we just pulled it home over the weekend. It's in the clean-up stage at the moment!

We love our 28'

I took down and washed all the drapes/blinds. Washed the entire interior. My husband has made lots of wonderful additions/changes to ours. We now have tons of easily accessible good storage in the added drawers/rebuilt deeper & longer drawers/new wide roll out shelves. If interested I can tell you what he did. Also new latches on those that would not close properly. He divided the upper kitchen and ba cabinets so things no longer slide everywhere.
We also put in a new wood floor and reupholstered the sofa and valances. We replaced both kitchen and bathroom valves with pewter updated faucets.
He took off all the cabinet hinges, cleaned them and repainted them pewter. We replaced all the handles throughout the unit w nice polished pewter. The hinges, handles and faucets all match beautifully and were a great improvement.
He recently changed the wiring so we have TV surround sound.

Enjoy your 28'!

Thanks kmtyme!

It sounds like you made some very good improvements. I will confess to being a little bugged by a couple of panels in the kitchen (and under the stove) that look like they should be drawers, but aren't. I am especially interested in: "He divided the upper kitchen and bath cabinets so things no longer slide everywhere." How did that work?

I'm currently trying to figure out how it is all going to go in, without taking anything I don't need! Is there any trick to washing the drapes?

Loving it already, and the AS has certainly gotten a lot of attention even in my driveway. It has to get even better, once we go camping!

Congratulations on the new rig and making the move from lurker to owner/participant Claire!

We've overnighted with kmtyme' and have seen their improvements. They've enhanced space and storage including the blind cabinet fronts that bug you.

I'm sure they'll share their changes with you.

How about a few pictures of your new rig?

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Welcome to the Forums and Airstreaming. We're glad to have you with us. Hopefully, your new Airstream will be a good fit. We have a 2005 25FB, named Lucy, that we have spent over 960 nights in, and have towed over 80,000 miles. We have spent the last six years making her our own and wouldn't trade her for the world.

Camp in your Airstream, and you will be able to decide what to redo and how to do it.

Brian
