Vintage AS and Politics associated with them?

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong forum, but I could not think of a better place to post.

What is the definition of a Vintage AS trailer? pre-'69, pre-'79? A Wally design? Anything over 25 years, no matter what?

Also I see there is a Vintage AS club, what is their definition? Can non-Vintage AS trailers go to Vintage Rallys?

Now for the Politics side. Is there any ellitist tone or attitude from the Vintage crowd towards later models?

Just wondering because, believe it or not, in the VW bus world there is a pretty big divide between pre-67 busses versus all later models. Not sure exactly why, but it is there.

This might be a fun Friday topic anyway

Thanks,

The VAC membership info says Vintage is 25 years old or more.

I and many others own both vintage and non-vintage. I guess I have a split personality.
I think there may be a bit of the snobbery with some folks regarding vintage, but there is also a bit of snobbery regarding Airstream in general OMO.
Thankfully, most are just nice people.
Vintage is 25 yrs or older.

I have run into individuals with "attitudes" towards the other on both sides of the vintage fence ~ but as Dave said, most are just individuals - not the general attitude of the owners...unfortunately, people often judge those they don't understand or haven't tried to. Not just in the Airstream community, but in many facets of life ~

Yeah, I think the 25 year limit is pretty standard for "vintage." It also applies in the world of old sports cars. What I can't remember is the cut-off for "antique."

Come to think of it, maybe the cut-off for antique is precisely when you can't remember.

Excellent. Thank you very much for the replies.

Honestly I am surprised the Wally design trailers are not more of a click. Granted a lot of the floorplans really overlap old to new anyway.

Whew, no politics = good

Thanks!

No politics? I wouldn't go quite that far...if you look for 'em, you'll find your fair share!

But if you choose to overlook the zealous few...you'll be happier ~

I'm configuiring our 1967 28' Ambassador to sleep 7. It will have center twins with bunks and an "L" shaped gaucho up front with one leg that pulls out into a double.

Good luck in your search

Buy what ya like and run what ya have.

There is always one in the crowed that is willing to try and ruin your day.
I think it is a missery loves company.

Also the more people you have the smaller the trailer you have to have.

Politics happen every where. I am choosing to ignore as much of it as possible.

Wow,

I hadn't thought of it before, but I can tell my kids they are "vintage" ~ they are both over 25! Yikes, what does that make me!

As we get older "vintage" at the 25 year mark sure seems different. I clearly remember the 70s... now 70s stuff is "retro"... I think of vintage as things my folks remembered, and stuff as antique that my grandparents had.

I do know 25 is the magic number for many things. Espcially insurance!

Cool thread. Thanks.

Vintage is anything older than 25.
Antique is anything older than me!

By the way, in Canada we count birthdays in metric as we do almost everything else, so you can understand why it would have to be older than Cameron to be considered antique.

I only have one vintage trailer right now! The other is a vintage trailer kit (~ some assembly required ~)!!! If I had room for a third it'd be a new one that doesn't require any work!
