Unladen Weight of 1967 Tradewinds

Hello there !

Just aquired a 1967 Tradewinds 24' which has been sitting for 10 years.
Trying to get a licence plate in NY, the DMV asked me to have it weighed to prove the unladen weight ! They say it is "no longer in the System". There's a number of 3000 lbs on the old registration but the clerk says this is the "Ladened weight". Does anyone know the unladen weight ?

Any tips as to what I need to do before towing it the 10 miles home would be Greatly appreciated.

The clerk is a beaurocrat. The '67 Airstream sales brouchure lists both the twin and double bed models of the Tradewind at 3850 lbs. That would be considered "unladen" weight. Don't know how they came up with 3000 lbs. Of that 3850 lbs, 440 lbs is listed as hitch weight. I've had several Tradewinds between years '65 and '68 and the scale weights are very close to the advertised weights. Not like later model Airstreams where the company played with the advertised weights to make the trailers seem lighter! Check the tire pressure and lights before towing. For ten miles, you most likely won't have to worry about brakes. Stay off freeways. Darol

For 10 miles, be slow and very careful.

Beyond that, check out the axles. They fail when parked for an extended period of time.

Hi Steve -- Welcome to the Forums!

Unladen? That sounds like the dry (or curb) weight. Airstream's website has been up and down on whether that section of the FAQs is working; it currently is not. We've archived their trailer weights pdf at http://www.airforums.com/forums/f238...hts-35742.html. Darol was right on with the numbers. What's missing from the pdf and probably only available with the actual manual is the GVWR (trailer GVWR minus payload equals the dry weight). Payload may be something between 750#-1000# for a trailer this size. Anybody have a better number on that?
