Trouble with pipes in Alaska !

Dear reader. BP isn't the only one having trouble with pipes in Alaska !! We are having woes with ours as well. The water pressure in our "78 Airstream has been good up until a few months ago when all of a sudden when we would turn on any tap we would hear a groan from the intake area and the water would shut down to a trickle. This problem healed itself over and over again and the pressure would be fine but the self-healing ceased and we removed a check valve hoping the problem would be solved, alas to no avail ! There is still something that groans back there and we are at a loss. Perhaps there is another check valve lurking unbeknown to us disguised as something else, because we cannot find it !!
What we need is a plumbing diagram. If anyone can assist with any ideas it may save us from tearing our hair out. Oh by the way we are hooked up to town water.
Cheers...Christine in Anchorage.

Hi, Christine,

Locate your city water pressure regulator. It looks sort of like a big propane welding regulator. Gently tap it with the plastic part of a screwdriver and see if anything happens.

If your's is a rear bath, I think it's in the utility closet, perhaps under a pull-up floor.

Many of these old regulators don't work so well anymore. A lot of the folks here on the forum, myself included, use an inexpensive Marshall in-line regulator out at the spigot. These are less than $10 in the RV department at Wal-mart.

And welcome to the forum, of course. It's going to be interesting to hear how you fare if you plan to winter in the Airstream. Hey, what do I know about Alaska? Is it winter there already?

Hi, Vic,

Welcome to the forums! So Airstream was evil enough to put a valve UNDER the shower? I don't know WHY that surprises me.

I'll let someone who has a clue answer this one, but do feel welcome. We're glad you and frozen chosen Christine have come to join us.

Thanks so much for your reply but unfortunately there must be another valve somewhere as that one was already removed. Cheers...Christine.
