Hi flyfishfred. Have towed an Airstream since 1976 (Wow!!). To avoid any fishtailing, sway and, so forth, my advice is to use a Reese hitch with 650 pound equalizer bars and two, yes two, anti sway bars. Crosswinds, 18 Wheelers nor VW's (the bugs especially) will cause it to do nothing but gracefully follow your tow vehcile.

Well,I guess it's about time I finally posted after studying this forum for a couple weeks. I dont have an AS yet but i'm looking. I've changed my mind a few thousands times already as to what year and size I want. I'm currently working on a big contruction job that is due to finish up in 2011 and before looking for a new job I thought I would take few months maybe more to roam the country. I'm single so I don't need that much room and my 2004 F150 5.4 factory tow package is rated for 9500 so I'm okay there I think. When I have something valuable to say or just a good pun I'll jump in. I am new to this awesome community and I must say that this forum is a godsend for those of us who are new to airstream restoration and know little to nothing about restoring a vintage travel trailer. I do have a brother who is a welding and mechanics whiz and another friend who sells used RV's, so hopefully I won't be completely on my own. Oh , and I forgot ! I have you guys!!!!
I've been wanting to own an AS for many years now and since I'm looking at retirement and an empty nest, I've finally decided to take the plunge and become the gypsy I was meant to be and buy a vintage trailer and .....join the caravan of life!!! yeah.!! That said ,I have found one that is geographically desirable, but here's the thing... It's a '72 Tradewind,with no title. The current owner said he bought it from someone in Maine and 'you don't need a title in Maine and it's not a big deal',etc,etc.yadda yadda yadda.... The vin is: L2J D2J 1724
Should I just go to the RMV tomorrow and inquire about the vehicle with the vin and just see what my options are before I buy her? I plan on gutting the interior and starting from scratch, making her like new from the skin up, so my concern is mainly with the exterior, which is 'good' on this gal. I'm just not too sure about the title .
Any words of wisdom from the AS gallery?

Absolutely. Find out exactly what to do and how long it will take. I was born and spent my first 18 years in the Peoples' Republic of Mass (AKA "Taxachussetts"). I bought an old Pontiac Lemans that had transposed numbers in the title. The car sat in the driveway for 3 months while I and my parents tried to get things fixed, which included several trips to the local DMV, a bunch of letters, and a trip to Boston. Be carefull! (this was 30 years ago, though). I hope things have gotten better since then. (but somehow I doubt it).
This is the Tradewind that I had mentioned in my previous posting. Besides the fact that there is no title with her, there was something else that I thought might b e bothersome. The rear extension on the bumper. Is this a red flag, doyathink? The trailer did not have any seperation that I could tell, no sag....and also this box is kinda ugly. HMMMMM. ? Might be difficult to change since it looks like the extension was welded onto the frame. I'm not too sure.

I am currently looking for the Bambi, used, and ready to do any work necessary. Been ready to travel on wheels, as opposed to the tent, that served me well in over 15 states and not sure how many national parks. Love the land.

Thanks for the input! Not much has changed in Mass, though there are taxier states now and the winters are certainly warmer then when I was a child. Whoops, I guess I'm giving my age away. I grew up near Seekonk Speedway, how 'bout you?
