Think we may have found our passion!

We have just run across a Sovereign 1977 and it seems to be an affordable price (with negotiation) but I can't seem to find a reliable website that gives us a, for lack of a newbies better word, 'Blue Book Value'. The exterior needs some minor work, and I don't believe the interior has EVER been updated, including brown shag carpeting. So I'm looking for a jumping off point, if anyone can help? Not sure how long this will be on the market, so we are looking for really quick answers. I'm off to bed now, but we another appt. to look at it about noon, tomorrow. We're looking forward to any comments you might have, and SOON! LOL Nite, Ya'll

Check the classifieds here for similar year and condition. I like that you included "negotiation". The actual value for anything used is the amount you can get right now. I love to buy things on Craigslist because I love to haggle for the best price. Good luck with your purchase -

Ken

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

As to vintage Airstream values, there isn't a reliable "blue book value" source. In addition to the Classifieds here on the Forums, I would check offerings on Ebay and rvtrader.com.

Conduct a Serious Inventory

Use a checklist to conduct a serious inventory of of what you must repair or replace to make it roadworthy. Don't let the shiny aluminum blind you to the truth.
Remember, while not insignificant, the purchase price will be less than what you will spend to make it something you can use.
That said, a 1977 Sovereign in unrestored, original condition is worth $3,800 to $5,800. Plan on replacing the following for starters:
Air conditioner, refrigerator, converter, batteries, tires, wheel bearings...
It is likely the axles will need replaced as well.
If you can do the labor yourself and have a place to work on your Airstream, you can control costs, otherwise it's an expensive proposition.
Remember, Tom's RV in Albuquerque charges $95.00 per hour.
Use a checklist to determine what you may be getting yourself into.
This is a 1976 Sovereign I restored (partially):

Think we may have found our passion!

Greetings CactusAirDog!

Welcome to the Forums and the world of Vintage Airstreams!

There are two valuable resources that might make your value determination a bit easier. The first, as mentioned by an earlier poster, is the Trailer Inspector's Checklist that is referenced on the Forums' homepage, and the second is the Price vs. Condition guide referenced on the Vintage Airstream site. Between the two resources above, you can perform a detailed inspection to determine a value for a Vintage Airstream product.

Good luck with your investigation!

Kevin
