We picked up the 25 foot Safari AS today and drove it 70 miles home. We have an Equalizer hitch and bought a Prodigy brake controller and had it installed at Camping World on the way there.
Beautiful wife wanted to dress shop for our only son's wedding in July, so we made a day of it.

To all the nay sayers who expressed doubt that a half ton truck would do well with the AS, I say so far you're wrong. Granted, the AS was lightly loaded, but I doubt a ton of bricks in the trailer would have made much difference. It pulled very well. I even passed a few slower vehicles going up a pretty good grade. I tried to keep the RPM's down and generally stayed below 2500 at 55-65MPH.

I have those stupid CIPA mirrors that extend the Tundra mirrors, and I'll soon be buying McKesh mirrors. They worked but not like I wanted them to. The truck came with the heavy tow pkg but didn't come with the tow mirrors. Toyota should make that adjustment in the future.

Other than the mirrors, I feel that the 5.7 Tundra is the perfect match for the AS. The headlights don't point to the sky, and the motor didn't often have to work very hard. The prodigy dialed in the brakes jiust fine too.

I pulled a few hills in the coast range on the way and while not the Rockies, I believe they gave a good indication of how the Toyota would perform both up and down grades. I'm elated with my choice.

I have a 1/2 ton, an 06 Expedition with the Prodigy, pulling our 07 safari. We have been over your coast range as well as the rockies several times loaded. Absolutely no problem. Enjoy!

I guess everyone who read my posts got my drift! I am a happy camper.

The only problem is that the AS is in my driveway and not along side some babbling brook somewhere. I'll rectify that ASAP! Steve

Glad to hear it Steve. Funny how we live in beautiful places and then go somewhere different. We seek water as we live in the high desert and seem to end up at an ocean every year.
