"that ain't no airstream "

hi , new guy here

my name is Stephan...please excuse my sometimes bumpy English
... i was born and raised in Switzerland and never had the opportunity to learn English in school (the Swiss school system likes to force you to learn German, Italian & French )

i got infected with the "polished aluminum aircraft style trailer" bug a little over a year ago when i found my 1966 Streamline collecting dust in Phoenix.
she was in very poor shape so i did a complete "frame off" renovation.
however, i`m not a retro freak (i dont like to camp in a rolling museum ) and i like to be different ... so i took some liberty in the reconstruction;

so i added things like all LED lights, modern high speed tires, dropped riding height (better aerodynamics), all new & lightweight plastic tanks, lots of outside storage, ....
and a vertical stabilizer fin !!!

as my screen name suggests i share my life with two lovely Briard`s (french sheepdog) ... my two boys goofing around in the trailer :
(3.5 year old "Ozzy" and 1 year old puppy "Armas")

in fact the trailer is build especially for the dogs; we like to go to AKC dog agility events all over the west.
i already traveled well over 10000 miles with the Streamline

i enjoi the Streamline so much that i managed to rescue a couple more trailers;
a 54 Spartan Manson (project/for sale), a 64 Streamline (agility equipment trailer), a 73 Streamline (for sale) and a 69 Airstream (project)
my newest score is a 1950 Spartanette Tandem that i just started to rebuild ....
she will eventually replace the 66 Streamline as my main "Doggy" trailer; she is bigger and 2 feet longer but actually a lot lighter and tows like a dream

anyway....
i already learned a lot by just visiting this board as a guest ...
now as a member i hope i can also add some useful posts and info

greetings from me and the boys

Hello Stephan, with greeting from the old native country!
You have pulled a crazy thing there at country, felicitation! From because of English, to me it also went in such a way! Now I must translate everything with the computer.... grin.
I still answer to you in "Schwiizertütsch", so that you do not forget this and here the other members will be astonished as we can come to an agreement....
Lots of love from the Bernese upper country
Werner

What a nice trailer! I would love to see pictures of the inside! That sounds like a lot of fun, traveling around to agility events, and doing it in style!

And I think the vertical stabilizer is cool!

Stephan, Welcome! You've got the kind of spunk I like! I like your approach and passion! We are lucky to have you join us. I look forward to more of your posts. It's like a breath of fresh air! Very nice Streamline! I share your passion to not tow a museum, but turn it into something new, better, and evolved and ever revelant.

hi Stephanie
thanks for the compliment
unfortunately the interior is still a "work in progress" (so is the polishing )
we travel a lot... and so far i just could not find the time to finish the inside

btw
the fin is a actual "airfoil" (teardrop) shape ....

i dont know if it actually helps to keep the trailer straight at speed LOL

... but its main purpose is hiding the extra tall gray/black tank vent pipe

(note; vinyl sticker is just temporary until i`m finished with polishing )

Welcome Stefan,

Streamlines are very nice trailers and quite well built. I saw one for sale in the NC mountains a couple of weeks ago, but my wife wouldn't let me stop and look...I wonder why

Welcome Aboard....

Stephan,

Your trailer looks very cool....the pups look right at home.

You can always tell a "dog person" by the funky stickers on the tow vehicle.

Stephan, I agree with others on this thread. ....Love the airfoil, and hope to see interior pics. Where did you get the airfoil?

thank you all for the warm welcome and the compliments

the fin is a leftover from restoring the polished P51 Mustang that is sitting in my backyard ....

just kidding !!! (or wishful thinking)

no, the fin is homemade out of some leftover sheets ... the leading edge/main skin is Alclad, but for the sharp trailing edge and internal bulkheads i used new pieces of bendable 5052

I really, really like Streamlines. And I like the vertical stabilizer. May I also recommend a cover, a new "shroud", for the air conditioner to continue the modifications?

With a modern "low profile" air conditioner (and a clean roof otherwise; as is practical), it might be quite a look if one is of a mind to pursue something approaching this look.

Am enjoying your projects. And the dogs are certainly a good looking pair.

Welcome to AIR
.
