Tedd
I am new to the forum. I plan to use my new (to me) '79' Airstream this summer and go to Canada up through Montana, into CAnada, across to Vancouver and back to New Mexico. If you have any information I could use or know a site I can get information, I would apreciate it very much.
I am divorced and will travel alone. I have been to many countries but only Vancouver in Canada so I know very little about it. I am really excited about the prospect of seeing the interior and meeting Canadians. I have heard it is beautiful there in the summer. I have always been courious about this country but have never investigated further.
I do need some information on how to replace the front safty glass center window on my 79, 25 foot International. The glass got shot out by a BB gun and is still intact. I was going to glue a piece of plexiglass to the shattered glass but decided to wait for some advice. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums.
At a minimum, you should learn to speak Canadian.
My only "experience" in Canada was in 1980 or 81. I was in Detriot for a meeting with BC/BS of Michigan. My wife was with me on this trip and we and decided to go to Windsor since it was so close. We drove across the bridge and stopped at customs. They looked in the car and asked what the stuff in the back seat was. I said "mini-computer parts". They told me just to turn around and go back. I didn't have the proper paperwork (carnet) to take them into Canada and they threw me out! That's the only country I've been thrown out of - so far.

The good news is that it is the center window and not one of the curved wings. Since it is a window that opens, it can be removed. You can pull the window and take it to a local glass shop and have them make and install a piece in the frame.

Like, hows it going eh? Welome to the forums. So you're taking off to the great white north ,eh? It will intially shock you when you buy gas in Canada, it's priced by the liter and is more expensive, hopefully the conersion rate will be good when you travel there. It was $1.25 Canadian to a dollar when I last visited which helped. Just say "eh" at the end of every sentence, eat lots of back bacon, don't be a hosehead and you'll do fine! Take off!

Welcome to the forum T,Tedd.
You are right, BC has some incredible scenery to enjoy.
We Canucks actually don't talk much different than our friends south of the border, but we sure do look different. I think it may be the third eye that scares a lot of folks off, but it could be the extra ear on the drivers side that gets to them .
When you are planning your trip there's a couple of threads on BC you will find using the search feature, and there are a few campgrounds noted as well. If you have any questions about travel in the province don't hesitate to ask.
One very important thing to remember is that no firearms are allowed into Canada. They are only for criminals to have and no law abiding citizen can carry them. They get very nasty at the border when folks try to cross with them and it gets really expensive and can really mar a trip.

Thank you
Thanks alot to all who responded. I had heard yveryone in Airstream world were very friendly and helpful. I believe it....I read a few posts and how wonderful to have a support system in place such as the one who could not get out of the park because he could not get his truck out of "park". Right away several people responded and he was able to solve his problem. You are all GREAT.

Take your passport with you. I think you'll have to have it to get back in the US. Someone correct me if wrong.

Shhh, Scott.
You aren't supposed to tell anyone about needing their passport to get back into the US. That's how we intend to fix our shortage of Airstreams and Airstream people problem. These folks already come with their own silver living accommodations so when they are not allowed back into their own country they will have to take up permanent residency in their Airstreams here . We get to keep them .
Now you've gone and let the secret out. Darn.

Sounds like you will have a wonderful trip! Take a laptop and be sure and hook up to the forum as you travel. When you have questions you will get lots of answers and advice! Check out the rally schedule and see if you can join in a few on your journey ~ it will be a great place to eat wonderful food (the potlucks are the greatest!) and meet "swell" Airstream folk. Everyone has a few cool "tricks" on how to fix this or that and it will be worth your time! Check out the members list, there are great folks who offer courtesy parking for forum and/or WBCCI members and it can be a big help in congested areas, or when you just need a rest!
Get out a map and post where you "think" you want to go and see what suggestions for special places to see pop up! I highly recommend Glacier National Park. Both the Canadian side and US side are wonderful! There is one road through there, however, that used to have strict length limits... others more familiar can help you out!
Have fun!

Thanks again for all the relplies. I have another question. It was suggested communicate through forums. Where and how do I do this? Do I go to another page or do it right here or get into the right catagory of what I need? Also, how do I change and add a picture to my profile? I, besides being new to this forum, am not very computer savvy. Thanks,

What was being suggested was that you start a thread and post to it as a travel journal or "blog" or web log of your travels. We enjoy reading about others' travels when we are not traveling ourselves.
Photographs are easy. Below the text box you will see a button that says manage attachments in the additional options box. Click on this button and you will see a series of text boxes with a browse button next to them. Click on the browse button and navigate to the folder where you have the photo file you want to add to your post. Select the photo and click open in the dialog box. Repeat this with as many photos as you wish to add to your post. When finished you will click the upload button to complete the process. Your photos will have to meet the requirements listed in the attachment box (less than a certain number of bytes and less than a certain widthXheight) in order to be uploaded to your post. Too large and it won't work.
Hope this helps. If not, there are some better instructions in the first forum in the forums section.

Thanks for all your information. Perhaps you can answer a few additional questions. If I ask for help on a particular problem or directions etc, where do I post and how? How do I put a in a picture on the left side of page in my profile? Do I go to this page or to a a particular thread as you call them? I am not very computer literate and hope you take the time to answer. Thanks, Ted
PS. I need to change the "TTed" to plain Ted. I don't know how the TTed got in to begin with and my profole does not show this information.

Ooops, I just noticed you want to add a photo to your avatar. That is done in your UserCP section found in the blue bar above using a similar method only with one photo and with a photo of lesser bytes.

If you click on the "Forums" tab at the top of your screen there are all kinds a categories for you to browse or select from when starting a new (or finding an old) thread. They are kinda lumped together in categories (forums) and sub-forums, then within each of those there are threads pertaining to the topics. Sometimes they get miscatagorized but the MODS will move them to the right category if/when found.
