Tall newbie In OH needs info on height!

Hi guys, just joined this forum today. My girlfriend and I are looking into an rv to purchase to spend a year on the road starting in april, she really wants an airstream but i'm 6/4 tall and am wondering what the interior heights of airstreams are, we've looked at a few rv's but no airstreams yet, hope to hear from some of you, thanks a lot, erik

hi erik' and welcome to the forums....

interior height depends some on the year/generation of trailer style...

you are right at the current interior clearance, not counting things that hang down from the lid...

the newer units are wider and have pushed out upper radius sides...

so they seem larger at the head/shoulders.

otoh MANY FAMOUS TALL PEOPLE have 'streams...

just take off your shoes and duck at the entry door...

cheers

I understand your delima. I'm 6'4" and don't have any major interference issues. I do have to be cognizant of the light fixture covers and the A/C though. Any bounce in my step and I'd need a band aid.

Good Luck,

Kevin.

It's a tradeoff

Erik---Welcome to the forums. Be sure to consider how you will use the trailer and how much time you will be inside and standing up. Best of luck with your search.

Erik I'm about your height in my 32 exella I can move around verry well.
Only the bed's are way to short.
We have a 2 single bed setup.
Still thinking of taking them out and make the whole bedroom one large bed.
or at least from side to side and than 6 ft wide.

Erik -

I looked at a map and it seems that you are about 2-2.5 hours from Columbus, OH. There is an excellent AS dealer there who'd be happy to let you walk through all of his AS trailers and answer any questions you may have. Caldwell Airstream is on Morse Road between 71 and 270 east of town.
Nick and Sid are the Airstream guys and are very knowledgeable.

If you're considering buying, you can't look at too many.

Also, 45 minutes more and you can gat to Valhalla - Jackson Center for a factory tour.

BobKelly has a point - other than while cooking, very little time is spent actually standing inside, other that getting back and forth.

Best of luck in your search!

we're looking for a vintage unit for financial reasons, trying to stay around the $6,000 range, and we'll probably do a fair amount of modding since my girlfriend and i both need desk space, she is a freelance editor and i'm working on a novel, we plan to live/work in this thing for a year! looking for one in the 25 foot range at 4,000 pounds dry

Erik, I am 6'3" and have no headroom problems even under the AC unit which extends down a bit. One exception - the shower is somewhat annoying. The shower enclosure is set on top of the floor so there is a bit less headroom than the rest of the Airstream. It is just about 1/2" short of me being able to stand up straight - encourages short water saving showers

always ducking anyway.....

Hi Erik,

Welcome to the Forums and good luck in your search for trailer that will suit your needs. Thought I'd chime in here because we have a 1967 22ft Safari and my husband is 6'5". He has no problems with head room inside the trailer, but he does have to duck a little to enter and exit. He also has to be careful walking into the bathroom. The shower is a also bit of a pain for him, and the bed is, of course, too short.

My husband says he is used to ducking in small spaces and having his feet hang over the edge of the bed , so for him it isn't a deal-breaker.

Keep us posted, and happy trails!

Erik,

If you guys want to walk through an older model (1971), without the pressure of being there to buy it, your welcome to look at mine. It's in a campground just north of New Albany - I need to get out there anyway and check on him - haven't been there since November.

I'm 6'3" too, and any height issues have never been an issue any more than anything else in life... If I see something low coming, I duck! I never felt cramped in either of my Airstreams (67 Caravel and 74 Overlander). Go for it and Good Luck!!!

Just remember to put the "hit head here" sign over the door I put a piece of foam pipe insulation around the top of our door to save hubby's head. Works pretty good. Our 1981 airstream is only 6'4" and duck on the lights. Love ours but would look at the 70's because they are taller.

Erik,

I am 6'2" and the only challenge I have in my '66 Safari is the entrance. Can't tell you how many times I have hit my head when entering the coach , however, the interior is high enough and there are no problems. I think I will try the pipe insulation piece at the entrance. Ouch!!
