Story of the new arrival

Still unknown as to what model it is but we just purchased our first Airstream. It was originally purchased by an engineering couple who quickly put it on a freighter and transported it to Africa where it spent about half of it's life. When it was brought back to Canada it was sold to the people we bought it from. They brought it home to their acreage and used it n their property for their version of camping and for extra bedrooms for the last 20 years. Now it resides with us where it will get the love and nurturing it deserves.

I'm no newbie to the nurturing of old vehicles. I'm a lover of old VW's and have restored a few and have a couple still. Our first camper was a '67 VW Riviera camper that served us well until the kids could no longer use the Cot.

Howdy and welcome to Airforums.com, Mowser!

Glad to see you managed to get a classic trailer with such a good-looking exterior, especially for its age!

OK, now how about some of the inside?

Gorgeous, and with an interesting history! Welcome, post a picture of the plate to the left of the door probably, and we can decode !

By the way, that's earlier than 1961, more like a 1957 or earlier. The windows are wrong for a 61.

Have a look see at the photo archives at vintageairstream.com

I wonder if it went on the African Caravan in 1959? That would be cool!

Every vehicle I've ever owned has had a name that has special meaning. Our Airstream is no different. We have decided on the name "Mafungo" which comes from it's history in Africa and is Swahili for Retreat. Time to start the clean up and mechanical checks. We have camping to do.....
