Stopping in to say "Hi"

We added a 2013 Flying Cloud 25FB to the family last summer. Moved up from SOB that we had enjoyed for a couple year. Had a wonderful time over the past few months testing and getting use to the new Airstream. Sad to say that winter has caused us to put it in storage. Now to begin dreaming of next Spring. Looking forward to participating in discussions with the the Airstream family. I know the wisdom shared here will greatly assist us as we begin our Airstream journey.

Congratulations from Battle Lake! Actually we've been traveling southern states looking forward to returning to the wonderful Land of a Zillion Lakes in spring.

Kay, we have only checked out the Airstream Park through their website. It looks like a wonderful place. We plan to visit it during the Spring and are looking forward to spending a few nights. Our son will be at band camp by Saint Cloud so the Airstream Park would be a perfect place for Mom and Dad to spend our time. Hope to see you there.

I would really hesitate taking my 2013 metal Airstream out onto Minnesota's super-salted winter roads. That's not to discourage using it, just a caution against the extensive corrosion that would be initiated on the shell and places you can't rinse out.

Some years ago we would get out of there for a month or so in the depths of winter. Would always look for a really dry day to travel when the roads were clear and dry. That was with a new VW Camper that was less corrosion-prone than our Airstream.

Doug, great point regarding the corrosion caused by the Minnesota winter roads. It is much easier to run the TV through a car wash. Like you stated, there are all those great hiding spots that the salt will find under the Airstream. Traveling on a dry day is a good suggestion.

Not that I would not want to travel down to Florida. This year the schedule just won't let me travel in January. I have been watching videos of the different rallies. Talk about great events.

The two accessories missing in new Airstreams are CorrosionX spray to treat your trailer shell and underbody with annually in dry climates and more often everywhere else, and a simple Moisture Detection Meter with a probe to poke through the perimeter of the floors (annually?) and find water leaks before they rot the plywood subfloors.

Inspections and maintenance are the keys to a long and happy relationship with your new Airstream. We do it and have already found a small leak under the door from a loosening hinge.

We couldn't be happier with our new trailer, just a daily source of pride and joy as we travel with it this winter.

Doug, can you post a link to the type of moisture meter you're talking about? Google gave me countless different types.

Ronnie, this is the one I and a few other Airstreamers use. We like it for its battery operation and the long, sturdy, and sharp probe that slips easily through the thin vinyl floor to test the subfloor. Floor rot's worst enemy.

Thanks mefly2. I am a Big Sky transplant. Grew up in Billings and attended U of M in Missoula. I have family still in the state so we get back for a visit at least once a year. Have a big wedding to attend in the Spring at Chico. Plan to bring the Airstream and stay outside of Yellowstone so we can make a few day trips. Looks to be a nice campground just north of Chico.
