SmokelessJoe's rig: New Owners

The week before last, an adventurous 73 year old Vermont couple went on the Forum Classifieds for the first time, read my ad, made immediate contact - and left for Ontario the following morning!

It seems the rig was everything they had hoped for so they took a room at a nearby country inn on Lake Erie to contemplate things overnight.

The next morning, Saturday, they announced that they’d like to have the ARGOSY and the Mercedes hauler/puller. (They would source their own Mini in America).

So, after another full day of demonstration and explanation, we repaired to Toronto for the weekend, my new friends guests at our home while they waited for their American banker’s and insurer’s offices to open on Monday morning.

That quickly done by mid day, we went back to Aylmer to get an Ontario transfer permit and hitch up. On Wednesday they set off on their new adventure, winding along the shores of Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence, landing safely at home in Vermont last night.

I have blessedly found Perfect New Owners. Heath and Mary Boyer of Windham, Vermont had once bought, gutted and remade an ocean going vessel, then sailed the seas with it a ten year long project. They therefore had a special appreciation for what had been done with the Argosy.

I’ve told Heath and Mary that I doubt that I could have built this outfit without the help and information found on this Forum. I know you will welcome them as I pass the torch.

It’s been a wonderful ride, right up to this very comforting conclusion.

WOW, what a story! 73 years old. They say those Vermonters are tough.

I hope we get to meet them on the forum.

Agreed! It would be fun to have them and their new to them awesome rig at a New England Unit rally! Our past President is a Vermonter and we just got back from an awesome weekend / fall business meeting in CT with members from all 6 New England states! :-)

Hi from AZ. . . We had the pleasure of meeting Sergei & seeing that great looking outfit at a Springstream (our 1st AS outing in 2011) when my wife knocked on his door & asked to see it () He's a great fellow & I'm glad that incredible Argosy is going to someone who probably deserves it. Congrats to all. regards, Craig

I too enjoyed meeting you and seeing that rig in person. It is great that some appreciative folks will have it back on the road. Congrats to all of you.

Hi Dan, Craig and wife, Alan and lady..... I remember well your visits while I was at Springstream that year.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Another guy that I remember from the Rally was the inventive Big Ed Moeller, from Wahalla, South Carolina.

Anyone know if he's still active?

All the best,

Sergei
