Shiny new (74) Safari!
Hi to the forum!
I'm now an official AS owner and new to posting here, but have to say that this forum has been a great resource in helping me choose what AS was right!
I've gotten some great ideas on here and am looking forward to putting them into action, so thanks!
My AS is in pretty darn good shape. The skin is next to perfect and the frame shows very little sign of rust. It had a bit of restoration done to it, and the woman was working slowly on it, but our plan is to do a full-on restoration. I don't think it needs a frame-off deal, just to get down to the studs and get it all up to snuff. I'm planning on moving some things around inside (not sure if there is a purist thing with AS interiors or not) and to have all birch veneer and mirror polish inside.
Here's a link to some shots!: Flickr: Pillage and Plunder's Photostream

Thanks all, look forward to getting in there and working on her!
The awning is actually all there (just taken off), the original fabric is in great shape, the metal pole that the fabric was in had rusted and the last owner ordered a new pole which she gave me with the trailer. I think we're going to have a custom one made with my company's logo on it which might be fun. For sure I'll keep posting pics, we'll be taking out everything (and maybe getting rid of some of the stuff if you need it Dr-Q;-)
Great looking trailers Dr-Q!
Cheers!
Eric

Be careful! That Safari looks better than most I have seen. It is special also in that it is one of the first with gray and black tanks. Please don't be one of those who dive into a great Airstream, tear it apart, then realize they are in WAY over their head. Then the project is abandoned.....What you have there is NICE. Go at it carefully.

Thanks Melody,
I imagine that happens a lot! I've spent a lot of time fabricating, building, repairing, re-purposing and restoring everything from cars to houses to steel structures so this actually seems like a walk in the park considering how small it is and how little raw materials one needs! The riveting I've done on sail boats, but it's been a while..
Between myself, my buddy I work with on this kind of thing and my father we have a welding shop, a wood shop and an electrical shop so I'm hoping we can not just get it fixed up, but really make it nice. My buddy builds custom cabinets so we're using either birdseye maple or tiger maple (I can't decide), and hardwood on the floor in the middle. The main area will have an aluminum colored vinyl: Tarket Fiber Floor Product Details
More to come!
Thanks!
Eric

Sounds great Eric, Love tiger maple. I thought about hardwood floor but decided with new built heavier then original cabinets the added wieght would be getting to high. I am thinking laminate or maybe cork floor, cant decide. Your shell looks awsome. If you were closer I might try to get a new tambour door for my upper over bed cabinet if you were getting rid of it.
All the best Dr-Quest
